5: Debate Recap: Donald Trump’s Grand Finale Ends With a Cliff-Hanger

THE THIRD AND FINAL presidential debate was what we have come to expect in head-to-head confrontations between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump: 90 minutes full of vicious insults, dark accusations of sexual misconduct and allegiance to foreign powers, and attempts by both candidates to steer policy questions back to mudslinging.

While this debate showcased a slightly more subdued Trump for the first 30 minutes, the reality television star then pivoted back to his freewheeling, abrasive style. He repeatedly interrupted Clinton, calling her a liar and a “nasty woman,” and managed to top even himself with the shocking suggestion that he may not accept the election results if he loses. “I will keep you in suspense, okay?”

No, not okay.

4: The candidates talked abortion, SCOTUS, and sexual assault in the final presidential debate

Donald Trump repeatedly denied that he had ever sexually assaulted any of the nine women who have accused him over the past several days. “Fiction,” “lies,” and “totally false,” he said. “I didn’t even apologize to my wife, because I didn’t do anything,” he said and explained that the accusers must want “10 minutes” of fame or they were put up to it by Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

3:Mosul battle could cause a ‘human catastrophe’

Families inside Iraq’s Mosul say they are living in fear and desperation as the military operation to retake the city from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) pushes on.

Speaking to Al Jazeera on the phone from inside Mosul, Abu Yazan, 36, who didn’t want his real name used fearing reprisals from the group, said fleeing the city was “not possible” at this stage.

“There is no way out for us as families. Even if we think about fleeing the city, that is not possible at the time being. We are being held hostages; ISIL took the whole city of Mosul as hostage,” said the father of three children.

2: Actress Shailene Woodley Reveals She Was Strip-Searched After Her Arrest Protesting Dakota Pipeline

Actress Shailene Woodley pleaded not guilty on charges related to the resistance to the $3.8 billion Dakota Access pipeline on Wednesday. She was arrested along with 27 others in North Dakota on October 10 during actions to mark Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Woodley was strip-searched and then put in an orange jump suit in the Morton County jail, which appears to be a common practice even for low-level misdemeanor charges. Woodley told Democracy Now!, “Never did it cross my mind that while trying to protect clean water, trying to ensure a future where our children have access to an element essential for human survival, would I be strip-searched. I was just shocked.” Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Chair Dave Archambault II and others have also been strip-searched after being arrested for nonviolent civil disobedience against the pipeline.

1:Donald Trump accused of sexual misconduct by 10th woman

A 10th woman accused Donald Trump of unwanted sexual contact on Thursday morning, just hours after the presidential candidate angrily renewed his denials of ever having inappropriate contact with women.

Karena Virginia claims that Trump groped her breast and made sexual comments toward her at a random encounter outside the 1998 US Open tennis tournament in Flushing, Queens. Virginia was 27 at the time. The two had never previously met, she said.

“I was waiting for a car to arrive to take me home,” she said, flanked by famous women’s rights attorney Gloria Allred, and facing a battery of clacking cameras.

As she was waiting, she claimed, Trump approached her with a small group of other men. “I was surprised when I overheard him talking to the other men about me. He said: ‘Hey, look at this one, we haven’t seen her before. Look at those legs,’ as though I were an object rather than a person.
