Paul White, the lawyer representing the Waikato DHB in the inquest into Nicky’s death, has written to the Coroner demanding the Coroner’s decision to release information to Nicky’s family be reversed.
The files were promised to the family by Police months ago, but White has turned the process into a mud-slinging battleground before there has even been a chance for anyone to draw breath!
His move, presumably approved by the DHB management and Board, gives the lie to Board Chair Bob Simcock’s public promise shortly after Nicky’s death that nothing would be kept from the family.
An inquest is supposed to be about getting to the truth of what happened and to learn from it. The preliminaries are only just getting underway but already it’s clear that White and the DHB are hell bent on trying to keep a lid on the inconvenient truths.
The inquest is just a money maker for White – he can go home at night to his family knowing that his day’s work has made our grief that much tougher to bear.
We’re angry that the DHB allow their lawyers to act in this way against our family. Our son is dead – he died in their legal care. We want to know how this could happen and we have the right to all information about our son’s care that helps us find those answers.
The DHB and DHB staff all have taxpayer and insurance-funded lawyers representing their interests (and clearly intend to be as obstructive as possible), unlike our family who have to find the money to pay for a lawyer on top of everything else that’s happened to us.
It’s clear the DHB is running an all-out attack on our family – but we won’t be bullied or muzzled.
Too many families we have spoken to have been bullied into silence. The worst has already happened to us, our son is dead, We don’t care what they try to do to us as long as we get the truth out and see change that means others don’t suffer the same fate.
We have tonight written to each DHB Board member complaining about Paul White’s actions.

After over a decade of study and experience in the area of mental health and suicide I have concluded that NOT providing suicidal and mentally injured or ill people with the professional treatment care and rehabilitation they are entitled to under ACC, health, disability, criminal, imperial, human rights and bill of rights is to create well paying jobs for LAWYERS (and other justice agencies).
Just look at who makes the most MONEY out of this INDUSTRY – lawyers, whether people trying to get justice or those who driven to commit crimes getting persecuted through the justice system. Nigel Latta reakons 70% of people in prison have mental health issues.
Then of course there are all the police jobs, according to David Rutherford Chief Human Rights Commissioner in past 20 yrs interactions between police and mentally ill has gone from 1000 pa to 27000. No professional mental health services of course – just police – I know I live this nightmare, begging for help from health and justice agencies, telling them I wish I was dead because of the situation I am in/lack of prof care – then having police sent to intimidate and bully me (not always their intention, some are very nice and understand but that’s what happens – my neighbours see that and think I am a criminal).
Of course I am poor after being left to rot on welfare for years so I can’t get a lawyer – which I know is against the law. Currently I’m on bail for five charges. 1 misuse of a telephone for phoning ACC screaming to have my care reinstated (after winning 2 reviews and waiting 6 years), 3 graffiti for using chalk pen to do swastikas on a police station (where mean officers had just insulted me for 10 mins), Wgtn High court for not being able to get a lawyer (MOJ office is there) and appeal court for being insensed by the lies written on the windows of that building about justice and freedom. Lastly wilful trespass of High Court for wanting to watch Ellis case of torture of 3 mentally ill men, because I tried to take a case myself last year against ACC and mental health that failed cause I didn’t know how to do it – I couldn’t get a lawyer even though MOJ told me I needed one and then I wanted to watch someone else do it – was assaulted by court security, had bruises for two weeks, police arrested me and let me out 20 mins later (nice officers who were ashamed of what had happened).
Sadly police at Carterton police station weren’t nice and also assaulted me, bruises still from that one, threw me on the ground, one really strong officer dug his fingers into the tops of my hands, which are still sore and bruised – what sort of person would hurt a woman like that – for retaliating in a non-violent way to being insulted and discriminated against?
Anybody out there can help me get my story in front of mainstream media I would be grateful – they all censor what I do, what I know and what’s happening to me.
I’m still alive – but only just – I want my life back and the treatment care rehabilitation and justice I am entitled to under NZ law, in a civilised society and democracy.

They have been crushing anyone that looks to deeply into their practices for decades and are very successful at it especially when crushing the little man trying to get justice. There is just to much at stake for these vested interests. Even when you think you are just getting somewhere they will hit you when don’t expect it. Even if you do win they apologist, move that Muppet off to somewhere else and another Muppet takes his/her place. You then think you have achieved something but really haven’t achieved any real change only a small re-tweaking and a change off Muppets.
