E tū says it heads into talks with Maori TV today, hoping for a deal which will stave off industrial action.

E tū’s Industry Co-ordinator, Communications Joe Gallagher says members, including key finance personnel, technicians and journalists have been trying to renew their employment agreement since October.

He says negotiators last month thought they had a deal but Maori TV’s Chief Executive Paora Maxwell subsequently reneged.

He says members have voted unanimously for industrial action but “we see that as a last resort”.

Joe says he is looking forward to today’s talks which he hopes will resolve the dispute.

“E tū takes its responsibility to the workers and the Maori community served by Maori TV very seriously”, he says.

“We are hoping to find a solution which meets the needs of both parties.”
