Anti-Police sentiment in America is the fault of the Police, not #BlackLivesMatter

Watching Fox news, the constant claim is that the anti-Police sentiment that has gripped America is somehow the fault of Black Lives Matter.

Bullshit.

The anti-Police sentiment is the fault of the trigger happy cops who kill African-Americans with impunity. It’s not the fault of Black Lives Matter who raise legitimate and righteous protest against a Police culture that kills without justice.

America’s arrogant cop culture is the reason why African-Americans get killed, and America’s gun culture that allows high powered military style weaponry to be bought by everyone is the reason why Police are getting shot.

Blaming Black Lives Matter is a smokescreen so that America doesn’t have to confront its own gun culture or Police authoritarianism.

  1. Black people kill more black people than the “cops”. it makes sense that if stopped by cops it dosnt pay to argue ,just stand still,if they ask for proof of licence etc tell them where it is,no point putting your life in danger to prove a point.
A blond male relative was in Arizona, driving down a quiet road , he was pulled over by a gun wielding cop,who ask him why he was weaving across the road , and ask if he was drunk ,relative told cop he wasnt a drinker, all the time the cop was nervously touching his gun.
Relative said Heh! relax Im from NZ we dont have guns there. The cop visible relaxed and chatted in a friendly manner,he said this is a nerve racking job when we arrive for our shifts we are never sure if we will be going home safely.
So please dont judge, when people in black lives matter sing “pigs in a blanket fry them like bacon” and that they want dead cops.
Clinton invited them to her place to ask for advice on how to deal to the problem,of course its election coming up she wants their vote, and Obama twice invited them to the White house,it was encouragement to them.
Fox news said thousands of chigargo’ans get killed in his home state, Obama never comments on that.
Police are just people and their lives are put in danger all the time.
Sure there might be some trigger happy cops but mostly according to the Arizona cop there are cops who fear for their lives as well.

    • Once again, Dave, you’re missing the point. No black man should be killed by a cop (unless it’s self-defence or other lives are at risk – which does not apply in these cases) – none.

You’re mis-using statistics to prove a rather unsavory point. If that’s the best you can come up with, then your argument is bankrupt. (Ie; crap.)

      And even your reference is bullshit. Aside from the fact it is a right-wing/conservative blog, it quotes irrelevent figures;

University of Toledo criminologist Dr. Richard R. Johnson examined the latest data from the FBI and Centers for Disease Control.

From 2003 through 2012, law-enforcement officers killed an average of 429 people per year in “legal interventions.” These include a relatively small number of innocent people killed by cops and many more who died due to reasonable use of force.

Really? That’s an interesting quote, repeated by several right-wing blogs, including our very own “Whaleoil”.

Except it misses the point entirely. We don’t expect law-enforcement officers to kill citizens for the most spurious reasons. Especially if they were unarmed or stopped for a fucking broken tail-light.

If you’re going to quote irrelevent stats to justify the murder of citizens by gun-happy cops, then your argument collapses.

We rely on police (whether in New zealand, US, or elsewhere) to protect people – not add to the body-count.

      • Agreed Frank. Black on black crime is irrelevant when talking about police brutality. If the poster cared to do his research rather than getting his information from some bigoted right wing site he would find that the black communities have programes that are trying to make a positive change to the voilence within their communities. The black on black crime argument is just a silencing tactic to a real problem.

    • Martyn,
Now we are in a spoiling cycle of “shoot first ask questions later”

NZ in my memory used to have an average cop who knew who we all were!

When NZ was a sparse community, but now we have all kinds of people so we are living in very unstable times.

Especially due to the government’s sinking lid social services policy as they extend their outsourcing and cutting funding to the cops all at the same time as many are either out of a job or anywhere to live!

So we are heading down the same path as USA for sure until a sensitive government replaces this evil NZ inc’ heartless Government.

  2. We agree on something. No black man (or anyone for that matter should be killed by a cop (unless it’s self-defence or other lives are at risk.Agreed.

“which does not apply in these cases” There is more to information to come and apparently. I will wait for the facts.

The setting up and subsequent assassination of police is deplorable, as is any group or individual who supports it. One of the latest assassination victims was a black officer with a 4 month old child. I cannot see ant right minded person thinking that these assassinations will help their cause. of course the availability of fire arms is another issue that the U.S. seem not to be able to address.

    • ERIC GARNER suffocated after being restrained by over 6 copd for selling loose cigarettes outside a dairy
TAMIR RICE at only 12 years old was shot dead for having a toy gun in an open carry state
FREDDIE GRAY was shakled and given a “bounce” ride without a seatbelt which resulted in his back breaking for carring a pocket knife.
WALTER SCOTT ran from a police officer after being pulled over for a broken tail light and was shot to death.
These are just the names off the top of my head so if you are getting your information from some conseevasive right wing site you may want to do some independent research rather than being so ignorant.

  3. fyi There is a petition doing the rounds in the US to stop sending American police to Israel for training. There is an urgent need to de-militarize the American police. Not sending them to Israel for training would be a good start.
    petitions.whitehouse.gov

Petition Title: Make it illegal to send American police to Israel for training.

Make it illegal to send American police to Israel for training.
Israel is a country engaged in illegal Settlements in violation of the 4th Geneva convention article 49 that America and Israel signed. Having our police trained by an illegal brutal occupation force that has a history of crimes against humanity is a contributing factor in police reacting to law abiding people as if they are an enemy combatant
