Turns out during an excruciating interview with Guyon Espiner that the 3000 ‘new’ beds Paula Bennett has promised to help solve the homelessness and over crowding issue are actually ghost beds…

Emergency housing beds gave ‘false hope’

Confirmation that 3000 emergency housing places to be funded by the Government are mostly already provided shows New Zealanders have been misled, the Green Party says.

That has been strongly denied by Social Housing Minister Paula Bennett, who said funding certainty for existing providers would help them survive, and hopefully expand.

Budget 2016 will include $41.1 million to fund 3000 emergency housing places per year, and comes as reports of desperate people sleeping in cars and garages puts a spotlight on the issue.

The funding follows the first ever review of emergency housing in a field which has been traditionally left to charity.

In a Parliamentary debate last week, Social Housing Minister Paula Bennett referred to the 3000 places as new.

This morning, she said they would likely be mostly existing beds at organisations including Lifewise and the City Mission.

…so it’s 3000 existing beds. How spiteful to sell it as a solution while desperate families huddle in cars.

Any suggestion that Bennett is still a pretender for the National Leadership post Key died with that Radio NZ interview this morning.

It was brutal and she was hopeless.

National’s $3billion dollar tax cut bribe is all the more obscene when you consider National intend to make that up from the $5billion worth of State Houses they intend to privatise.

The grim naked awful truth of what we are becoming in NZ.

  1. I so despair for the people of this country. I’m about to become a grandmother and have to stop myself imagining his future. I’m sorry we have been misled by our “leaders” for so long (think distorted NZ history taught in state education, Clayton tax havens, poverty, homelessness, greed now the norm for starters) someone save us from ourselves

    • People see what they want to see. I haven’t been misled. Many people are too busy to take an interest in the forces that shape their lives. Ooops.

      • So you are one of the self-righteous, privileged and greedy who openly and knowingly voted for this predicament in the name of self interest then. Ensuring your rights at the expense of the necessities of life of others. On behalf of NZ’s homeless and down-trodden – cheers mate.

      • Then you are clearly one of the privileged, self-interested greed-fueled individuals who knowingly voted for these people because you believe that treating the less fortunate (who certainly do not have the leisure of being able to keep up with evil intentions of politicians) like animals. Good on you, what a legend.

  2. Beds? Seriously, like a prison or a asylum? What next Paula, Workhouses?

Our citizens and family’s are only fit for beds, not somewhere to live but somewhere to doss down for the night, just like Victorian England!

The Brighter Future is, in reality for those not so well off, the Dark Past.

  3. Have you ever herded sheep? Cattle are a little more polite when it comes to being herded through narrow gate ways but sheep just fucking go for it. They just crush into each other, they claw at each other with their hooves and trample and squash until only the fit and the lucky survive.
That’s what my adjectives did when I saw bennetts face. They all rushed forward and got stuck in my brain hole. Nouns and verbs too. Clamouring and shouting ! Some pulled knives while others left nail bombs in AP departure lounges. I saw a box of hand grenade adverbs throwing themselves at kinder adjectives and shouting traitor ! As they fell on bennetts dead, beady eyes like confetti on a rain soaked church yard. I could see them twinkling but they were stuck to the spot.

      • I don’t need your respect @ JEANETTE, thus, I don’t care what you think.
The important thing to do is to get ones opinion out there against the tide of criticism levelled for the sake of bitchiness. And control, of course.
Am I doing a paper in English ? Everyday sweetheart. Until jonky, his cronies and the squawking nightmares like bennett are consigned to history. Every fucking day until the scum’s skimmed from the pond.
” Very flowery” you say. I can be very thorny too but Scarlett Mod won’t let me.

    • It could have been worse. Countryboy.

Imagine (but not when you’re drinking coffee near your keyboard) adding Ruth Richardson and Damn (no, that’s not right) DamE Jenny.

An entire corruscating nova of split infinitives and four letter combinations could stream from your steaming QWERTY.

And there are STILL people who claim we fems are the ‘kinder, softer sex.’ Bah humbug!

  4. this government has had 8 years to fix the housing problem its not good enough
we have record homelessness ,record house hold debt , working poor mibble class at food banks tax haven for the greedy after listening to that cold lying bitch Paula Benefit i think these ministers who destroyed this country should be on the end of direct protest action outside there homes not queen street why should these thieves enjoy warm homes when thousands have to live in cars, garages, rack up debts they cant afford time to inconvenience there lives

  5. Any suggestion that Bennett is still a pretender for the National Leadership post Key died with that Radio NZ interview this morning.

Ah, if that were but true…

Unfortunately, as our esteemed Dear Leader has demonstrated time and time again, his popularity survives despite being caught out fibbing; bending the truth; misrepresenting a situation; and incorrectly blaming others (Labour, beneficiaries, GFC, RMA, etc) for his screw ups.

New Zealanders seem to have lost their intolerance of mendacious politicians.

    • Mendacious?… mendacious?

I recall last year a few children died as a result of deliberate govt policy that was designed to encourage poverty exploitation by having some of the lowest minimum wages in the developed world , highest property values and deliberate underfunding of state housing designed to privatize it into ‘social housing ‘ instead.

Would Paula Benefit consider her job done if the poor lived in cardboard boxes and reported each morning to join the long queues to see if their employers had any work for them that day?

Mendacious?…. I would be more inclined to say oblique govt complicity in the deaths of its own citizens. And I’m not alone.

Because basically – that’s what the coroners report said without the govt complicity bit.

        • “Lying cow”?

          “Selfish psychopath”?

“Incompetent useless political bludger” who used the system to benefit herself and is now shitting on others?

I could go on, Frank, but I’m thinking I’ve covered most bases.

  6. I thought that “This is like the three card trick” – where’s the homeless family now ?
There, there – no: you lose

Actually those guys are more honest

  7. I am surprised that some are surprised about this “news”.

This is the modus operandi of ‘Nat-ACT-Dunn-over’ in government.

And they have done the same in previous budgets, the same will happen with the budget due out next week.

Money will be presented as “new spend”, while it is taken from other areas, where it would also be needed, but where it is taken from, as the services and people involved there may be weaker, have less of a public voice and cannot defend themselves.

So prepare for more social welfare cuts, somewhere, or health spend caps and what else comes to mind.

Debt is still increasing, that is also government debt, and while tax cuts are again on the agenda, money does not grow on trees, is not earned easily and thus will have to be found somewhere.

Paula Bennett has learned from English and Key, her masters, how to present us dodgy figures, and to sell us policy and programs that will only look like they are new and real.

Window dressing, smoke and mirrors, smile, wave and run away, and hide, that is the game they all play with us.

  8. So, why are people in this country so dim? Fact: She never said 3000 BEDS. She said 3000 places. Fact: Just because they already exist does NOT mean she lied. All she has said is that the government are going to be FUNDING these beds – which makes it a new addition to the Governments portfolio.

People in this country need to start to actually research things and not just take the word of a blogger who doesn’t have a clue and is just scare mongering to get hits. Kinda ashamed that this showed up on a friends FB page to be honest.

    • …………………………………………………………………………………………..
‘ Kinda ashamed that this showed up on a friends FB page to be honest. ‘
      …………………………………………………………………………………………..

Why ? … did Cameron txt you back saying your undermining his blogsite?

    • That’s exactly what this piece is about – that the soundbite on mainstream news indicated that there were 3000 more beds (or ‘places’ as you insist on saying – as if ‘places’ can therefore rightly suggest that perhaps a space on the sidewalk would then be sufficient and cover Bennett’s lie?!) was not true. There are not 3000 more desperately needed beds. There are precisely zero.

    • Actually, she DID say “3000 beds” you moron;

“”We are paying for places that we have never paid for before … I’ve got organisations that were saying they were going to close their doors because they couldn’t afford to keep running,” Ms Bennett told Radio New Zealand.

“And I have stepped up and got the funding for them to keep those doors open so those beds are available for people who desperately need them.” http://m.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11640573

So get your facts right your Tory git.

  9. We are usually a peaceful nation, but of recent years I feel as one at the bottom of society to be not counted: So Mr Key and Paula Bennet, think and absorb this, and get back to us. I resent terrorism. but with your totalitarian abuse of our society. what is left for us to do?

    • How many of us born during the 50’s 60’s 70’s & 80″s would remember these thoughts “Land of milk & honey, the number 8 wire mentality, the Kiwi can do attitude and Kiwi proud as a nation” where has that all gone???
Whole families with children living in crowded extended family homes with 1 bathroom who are living in garages.
Homeless people living rough in Auckland CBD out in the open in public view, families with kids living in cars, unhealthy and unsafe you bet your bottom dollar it is.
Whats Shonkeys’ reply to this mess? Give them money to temporarily put them into motels, but wait you have to payback this debt how the
hell are these poverty stricken beneficiaries suppose to pay them back!!!
If this isn’t entrapment I for one BEG to differ. These poor people are being sucked deeper into a black hole with little hope of surviving because they’ve been forced to accept this immoral unfair and totally inhumane situation.
Man up! Admit it Shonkey, Annie Get You Gun Tolley, Paula Housie Bennett, Nick Land Grab Smith you’ve screwed up big time and you
can’t see your way out of this shit in a hurry how shamefully disgraceful.

  10. Poor lame Paula as the pieces come fallng all around her.
She is as trustworthy as her shameful serial lying Lord Fontleroy Donkey.
This photo makes her look like she ‘s just coming off a week long angry drunk.
But, she says, at least I have a nice ; dry ; comfy warm bed to sleep in tonight. No cars for me and my kids.

  11. Clare – You are right on the ball. This National Government has no shame – they worm their way out of every pile of shite that they have created.

To me the really evil ones are those who have voted these crooks into power, and I don’t see any of them changing there allegiance any time soon.

National supporters believe the poor have brought this all on themselves. Goodness only knows how.

  12. Angry bull dog trying to help but getting lost and drunk over her ill suited power and new elite lifestyle. Bully Paula rants on and on and going nowhere – no problems solved, just words and fluff.

The homeless and poverty stricken should feel very warm and comfy knowing someone like Paula is on their side and trying to help. Yeh right.
What is it like Paula, to have to live in a car ? What is it like Paula to have to put your kids to bed hungry and homeless ?
Are your eyes and heart open at all ?
