I am numb and shellshocked.

After losing Campbell Live, I wrote last week Native Affairs was the final bastion of real journalism left on NZ TV, Mihingarangi Forbes, the courageous and fearless host of Native Affairs has quit the show today...

The Herald has been told Forbes’ resignation came after the Native Affairs team were told they were not to run a story on Te Kohanga Reo National Trust, planned for Monday.

Native Affairs was fearless in asking hard questions, especially towards sacred cows within Maoridom. That Mihi has been forced to quit because management are attempting to gag her shows investigative abilities is shocking and just another dire indictment of the state of journalism in this country.

With Campbell and Mihi gone, we have no more Jedi’s left in the media. The mainstream media Death Star wins.

Every week another wheel falls off NZ journalism and Mihi was the last wheel.

Mihingarangi will be MCing Table Talk next Tuesday – book now before it gets booked out.

  1. Hi Martin
Have I been band or something?
    I can’t post a comment on Rachel’s articular about abortion ??
tried multiple names/email address, and even on a different computer?
    Whats happening?
    Thanks
    Robert Atack

  2. I thought those in charge of Native Affairs were above all the riff raff but it seems that politics and greed AGAIN raises its ugly head.
Good on you Mihi for standing true to your ethics and acting with integrity. Courageous !.

Good honest and truthful journalism is now deeply entrenched on the endangered species list.
All the more reason why places like The Daily Blog and a few others are so very important now. Hope more people like John Campbell and Mihi and others can join in and share their wisdom with words and comments here. This could be a real powerful outlet and thank our lucky stars and the staff at The Daily Blog for providing this wonderful outlet. Words are powerful and writing can be culture changing.

Don’t feel too discouraged Martyn — there really aren’t any accidents and this could be an opportunity for good change and new people contributing and working together. That scares the heck out of the criminal ; elitist upper ; 1 % ers who wish they had more good folks on their side. They only dream about being ethical and creative instead of bound with so much greed. Maybe the answer lies beyond taking sides and not affirming the — ” us against them ” mentality. They the (upper 1%) are the real Conspiracy Theorists, not us, they coined that term at the Tavistock Institute, England (long ago) to discredit those who would want to expose them in the future.

  3. Terrible news! Only this morning I emailed her saying, “Thank you for the excellent public service television that you deliver,” before offering material to assist the flag debate.

You don’t have to be a conspiracy theorist to see the thin blue hand of the beehive reaching into media boardrooms to hound out those who dare to challenge the power elite!

  4. The dictatorship is working!

Campbell Live had a surge of viewers and high ratings, and yet they shut that down, Paul Henry only appeals to the stubbornly stupid fans of his, and gets rather poor ratings, and seems to enjoy secure employment.

Now Mihi is basically forced to move out of Maori TV, as some new bosses may not quite like her way of reporting, that is what I read out of it.

I am increasingly disgusted about what goes on in NZ, but sadly most bend their heads down, or are too damned busy to compete and survive, and cannot bother to take a stand and stop all this nonsense and insanity.

Sick, sick and sicker, that is how NZ is becoming under one John Key, who gets away with lying in Parliament every day it sits.

  5. Long ago …during the Highland clearances of Scotland… the English paid off as many chiefs as they could to put the land into sheep…and remove the clan crofters ( small plot farmers ).

Hence why so many of the Scots became fishermen having left for the only land there – the coast …and then after… emigrated to so many parts of the globe. It broke the clan system entirely. But in the process,…thousands died from being forcibly marched off their lands in the dead of winter and their houses torched , stored food for winter destroyed.

Figuratively…this the same divide and conquer tactics we are seeing happening here.

Embed your ‘own ‘ people , pay off the opposition to think ‘ your way ‘ …then remove with a push / shove / did she fall or was she pushed tactic.

This didn’t happen in a bubble …it was planned.

And we are now witnessing in a lesser way ,…. an example of just how dictatorships actually come about . Its all being done so seamlessly and smoothly….with hardly a whimper.

These are indeed dark days , evil days ….

  6. “This didn’t happen in a bubble …it was planned.”

Yes the whole thing is planned. It may be in a lesser way, in that it’s by stealth, but the result is the same. The lesser way also means the real dictators remain in the shadows of the illusory political game we call democracy. If Fascism always wore the same clothes it would get bounced at the door. They now have full control of MSM and the government. How do you stop it now? Dirty politics has hit top gear. It’s like watching them construct the gallows through the bars on the window.

  7. The English back then didn’t have social media to deal with though.
I believe, the loss of Northland to Winston, is the true feeling of the country. People have had enough of this government, but they need a viable, fresh, alternative to the same old, same old. Winston was that (charismatic) alternative up North – what party/leader will be that alternative come 2017, or sooner, should there be another by-election (fingers-crossed)? And can they get their voice heard, on social media, as MSM is now compromised?

  8. Stuff the MSM, you know, it is time to take action, and not rely on any such BS 4th estate that does not exist.

You known what? In Europe and other places, they dare occupy buildings, and squat.

There is a rather luxurious home in Parnell, in St Stephens Ave, inhabited by an entitlement minded “rich prick”, who has power, he thinks he gets away with pulling young girls’ and waitresses’ hair, with dishonesty in Parliament and with dodgy government and business.

Some call him a “bankster” and worse.

Now, we have many homeless in Auckland, we have some live in garages and damp Housing NZ homes, they need a place. I believe they have every right to seize and occupy a home of a “rich entitled prick”, who even has a heated swimming pool in Parnell, and squat there, until they get offered a home that is safe, secure and healthy and affordable where they can live in.

Go, people, take your rights and seize what should be yours, maybe it is even owned by Tangata Whenua after all.

I dare think we have a case, if not, prove me wrong. People living in privilege and with huge property have a duty to share, and especially if they once benefited from the state and taxpayer to get homes and a free education and health care.

People have human rights and a right to a healthy home, why are some privileged and speculate on property values while others freeze and have kids die early due to poor standards and care?

    • Yeah – rich prick’s right – and the corporate bludger even grew up in a state house and got the taxpayer to subsidize his bloody education – and now the bludging hua wants to privatize state homes and social services the bloody two faced mongrel.

    • You would have to decontaminate the premises first, it would stink of dirty money being the lair of New Zealand’s biggest arsehole. You would have to be armed with crossed golf clubs when you enter the lair of this corporate parasite. Lurking in the shadows, looking out for any ponytails that can be pulled. A technique used to pull the neck back as he then goes for the jugular vein. After feeding off the poor, he then posts selfies of himself, refreshed and renewed as he loungues in his heated pool, bare chested with his own vampire prodigy.
After selling his own soul, he was given the powers of the undead. With every attack from the left, he keeps coming back to torment the good folk in the countryside – those forgotten rural regions, the innocent, the blessed poor.
We need to rid ourselves of this terror.
Now where is that stake …

      • You people are sick, your twisted views are unbelievable. I suggest you need psychiatric help.

        • Take your meds, lay very still , focus on your breathing ….and think nice thoughts of fluffy clouds and a warm summers breeze…

          Focus on that breathing , there’s a good boy…

Now focus ,…focus . come on now focus…you can do it…

          Attaboy ! well done !!

  9. Bugger, bugger, bugger!!! What the hell is going on?? Mihirangi was my go to after JC Live. She totally skewered that one line repeater tolley. What next to reclaim Aoteoroa/New Zealand.??

  10. I liked Mihi’s interviewing style she made those accountable where accountability was necessary unfortunately this was to be her demise and that’s usually the case if you probe hard enough or ask to many questions especially of those that might be in power how can the NZ public be informed if journalist like Mihi are not allowed to ask questions that are of interest to New Zealanders – Im very disappointed in Maori Television who should be encouraging and supporting our Maori journalists not chucking them out in the cold as soon as controversy rears its ugly head Hmmmm perhaps MTV funding should be found elsewhere rather than getting it from Don-Key!

  11. Martyn

While the iron of despair is alive please why don’t you call a special emergency meeting of all journalists because soon we wont have any and surely holding an emergency meeting amongst you all with a common interest, – must be able to arrange some way to combine your own resources to take over some existing media channel and call it some radical name that will resonate like “Free voice of NZ”?

  12. Campbell and now Forbes. Both journalists who were able to make a difference by telling the truth! Both the best in their field.

Campbell and now Forbes. Both gone! Our loss!

The great dictator is winning the battle, preventing the truth from getting out there! NatzKey has to be stopped, or the outcome will be a completely sanitized media! It’s not too far away from that fascist scenario now!

I wish Mihi well in whatever she chooses to do now. And I know whatever it is, she will be a success.

  13. The fascist dictator leaders of the world are carrying out an agenda set in place long long ago. They may appear to be winning the current battle but in the long run, they will loose the war. Integrity and justice are not on their sides when greed fills their narrow halls and a lack of ethics rules their worlds. We the people of the world have had enough and we are not silent.

The Hundred Monkey Theory is about ready to blow up in their faces.
Creativity and compassion and love are not their motto’s.
Greed is ! and their power is an illusion based in quick sand.
John Keys days are numbered and the sooner the better.

  14. Also now missing is Andrew Fagan from Radio Live. Why I don’t know but he certainly did not come across as a bread and butter National sycophant and was less than flattering in his comments.

Whether he left for unrelated reasons or he was assisted out the door like the rest of Nationals critics, I miss him!

    • Is Karen still there ?

Must be lonely going solo in that echo chamber radio room.

I always liked Andrews yelling and phasing in and out of the microphone as he was looking for his car keys on the floor…..always quite the gentleman in a laid back slightly bogun kind of way…

      • According to my client (I don’t listen to talkback unless I’m forced to) Karen Hayes is on but it is a very low key set – how to grow you carrots, no political stuff.

        Didn’t Martyn predict this?

  15. A new Labour-led government must reform TV1 into a non-commercial, public broadcaster. I suggest John Campbell in the role of Chief Executive and Mihingarangi Forbes in charge of News & Current Affairs.

But most of all, legislation and funding must be entrenched so that future National governments cannot easily interfere with a new public broadcasting entity.

When/if Labour is elected into office, we must be on their backs 24/7 to achieve this.
