Albert-Eden Residents are lucky this week, being treated to a FREE Energy Workshop on Tuesday night. If you live in Albert-Eden, you should head along and hear all about energy efficiency and ways to save money.

 

New Lynn has got new night markets and you should go check them out! They are every Thursday night and will feature produce and street food and entertainment. Apparently Whau’s local board want to get people back into the city and celebrate the ares cultural diversity and these are all good things.

 

LATE at the Museum continues it’s Of Gods And Men season this Thursday with a discussion inspired by Demeter inspires a conversation about Regrowth and New Life. Wallace Chapman is moderating a stellar panel of Professor Dame Anne Salmond, Professor Paul Tapsell, and Professor Michael Walker.

Labourites may also be keen on Left Hook presenting an evening with David Shearer and guests (Josie McNaught and Mark Scott) on Thursday night at the Pt Chev RSA. They will be discussing the ABCs- Art Building Culture from 7pm.

 

It’s the Lifewise Big Sleepout this Thursday night. Metservice is predicting an overnight low of 10 degrees. It’s going to be cold. Obviously the participants are only doing this for one night- but the funds raised will be going towards helping those who do it rough every night. So far, the group has raised over $100,000 and are on target to beating last years total of $130,000. You can find someone to sponsor here- every little bit helps.

The Pink Room is showing on Friday night. This is NOT lighthearted Friday entertainment. But it is an informative documentary about sex slavery in Cambodia. There will also be music from Lisa Wright and a speech from Daniel Walker, author of God in a Brothel.

 

It’s Matariki and this Saturday is Manu Aute on Puketāpapa. Head along for a day of kite and flag making, kite flying, flax weaving and kai. Such a beautiful way to spend a Saturday!

On Sunday there is a Planting Day happening at Tawharanui Regional Park from 10am on. GO prepared with weather-appropriate clothing, and gloves and a spade if you have them and TOSSI will provide a sausage sizzle, tea, coffee and water.

 

The Aotea Ice Rink is open and I for one am going to be getting there as frequently as possible over winter.
