Nobody was expecting the Spanish inquisition, but Helensville at least deserved a debate

The farce that was the Helensville electorate debate was manufactured purposely to be a show of democracy rather than an actual democratic event. The clown organisers decided to put the event on what must have been the smallest rooms in all of Helensville. Last election 60 Minutes did a story with Slater and I where we watched Key in his electorate debate 3 years ago and the venue then was huge.

This was a shoebox that became full an hour before the debate even began. Police were turning punters away once it became dangerously full.

Then Key arrives to boos and jeers

Laila walks through and gets a huge cheer, pausing to make a speech and then enters the debate.

It was interesting to see that while Key certainly had supporters there, the majority were anti-Key. That’s a fascinating turn around on 3 years ago at the same event.

The limited manner in which candidates could debate and be questioned was as lousy as the venue selection while the rules were clearly breached by Key on several occasions.

Laila was the star performer followed by Hone. Key looked asleep most of the debate. For someone who was talking so tough against Hone last week, Kelvin Davis was as meek and mild as a chastised child and Penny Bright was as mad as a snake.

What is interesting is that the buzz and energy isn’t with National this time. No wonder they need to rely on mainstream media bias to get them across the line this time.

Nobody was expecting the Spanish inquisition, but Helensville at least deserved a debate, not this poorly organised joke.

  1. Even that right wing rag, “The NZ Herald”, is saying Key was
on the verge of being kicked out. Fat chance of that actually happening of course.

    • FJK must be aware by now, that a big venue will draw a big crowd of trouble, and a small venue with a small crowd just a little trouble with less police presence needed – making his trouble less newsworthy.

If he knows and had implemented the small venue, then he must be scared, and know his days are numbered. Caught. He will run from NZ like he did from his Irish and EU troubles, and end up fully nestled in the lap of the USA. Hopefully waiting to be done for Treason!

      Opinion.

  2. Couldn’t get in either, even RNZ’s Brent Edwards was not allowed in. My partner reckoned there were more late model vehicles parked in surrounding streets than people in the hall, weird.

Waste of space really, at least Internet Mana has speakers for standing room only venues as they genuinely want to engage people. These dickheads were like one of those dictator elections where El Leader gets 97% support. Got a couple of good FJKs in though when the godKey arrived.

    • Mmm Speakers outside for those who couldn’t fit/get in – not much to ask!

It isn’t right to not be able to hear political speakers if you want or choose to.

      Opinion.

    • LOL!….That immortal election slogan / chant…FJK !! – will be remembered forever as the pre eminent slogan of 2014.

Itll still be ringing in his ears when he looses and scarpers back to Hawaii with his tail between his legs.

  3. Good cover thanks Martin, who said-
“The farce that was the Helensville electorate debate was manufactured purposely to be a show of democracy rather than an actual democratic event.”

“What is interesting is that the buzz and energy isn’t with National this time.

Yes Martin the heavy National bias and anti opposition media spin now emerging from every quarter in N.Z. is very worrying.

OUR CALL FOR AN EMERGENCY OPPOSITION FORUM TO BOYCOTT THE MSM ATTEMPT TO SKEW ELECTION 2014.

Therefore we CALL for all our sakes that all opposition parties now form an alliance to meet in an emergency forum, and vote to call for a media boycott and stop to the election clock until TVNZ and RNZ place free broadcasting services available now to give the electorate a free access and use of their facilities to explain their own policies to the electorate so they have clear knowledge what is on offer prior to voting on election day….which now may be held back till 25th October.

  4. The whole thing seems to have been a set up to promote John Key but it backfired because it was so over-managed by the organisers that it became a fizzle. If this was John Key’s best shot in his own electorate then voters need to take off their blue tinted spectacles and ask themselves whether this bloke is really the best person to represent them.

    • Good to see your being sarcastic about FJK as well mate. Much appreciated. We knew youd see the light and come over to the warmth of the Left sooner or later.

Most do sooner or later when they realise their error.

  5. A confident transNational wouldn’t need the Epsom transNational/ACT compact/gerrymander to winkle an extra seat.

  6. The rules were obviously set up so that Harre couldn’t out do Key in any debate that might take place.
Don’t want Teflon John looking like the ass he really is do we?
