  1. Not to take anything away from your article but the revelation in the Sunday Herald that the police have doctored their crime stats to eliminate burglaries has opened the can of worms on way the National Party has managed this country under Key.

This is the penguin on the tip of the iceberg as to how National use statistics to claim anything from low crime to low unemployment to reduced child poverty to the booming economy and on and on it goes. Its not the stats, its how they come to be!

Any opposition member should seize upon this as it goes straight to the heart of Nationals lying good news machine.

  2. The fact is that if David Cunliffe was going to apologise to women for the violence committed by men against them, he had no choice but to include himself.

The alternative would have been to say “I’m sorry for all the other men who commit violence towards women” which would have put him out on a limb in quite another and worse way – blaming other men for violence.

He had no choice other than to include himself and probably understood this.
