Davis vs Harawira

Kelvin Davis is an excellent Labour candidate, but the attempt to whip up a confrontation between Davis and Harawira seems more hopeful than legitimate.

I think Kelvin will gain a very high rating in the next Labour Party list, high enough to guarantee him re-entry into Parliament and that will be the main selling point to voters in Te Tai Tokerau. They will get two representatives by electing Hone as their candidate and gaining Kelvin off the list.

The desire for ‘Labour led’ Government language was so that it could include MANA and NZ First. Those constructing the Labour election strategy understand this, political journalists don’t seem to.

  1. Political journo`s have one goal when electioneering is in progress…. To twist the minds of voters and confuse the whole media election spectrum.

  2. Yes, Te Tai Tokerau will get two representatives by electing Hone as their candidate and gaining Kelvin off the list. And the handful of National MPs in another strong National government will ensure that the major amount of interest, investment and cause for pride (for National) in Northland over
65 years will be their holiday highway and a charter school.

All of the Aucklanders on their smoother trips north to their holiday homes won’t give a toss about Te Tai Tokerau having Hone and Kelvin Davis.

The death of the Labour Party, and there will be many to mourn the passing. The Middle Class Fabians are happy being Green. Middle New Zealand see only Damian O’Connor to identify with, Kelvin Davis of strong appeal, denied a platform, and Clayton Crosgrove, suspect as being always a lawyer.

The most vital battle for Labour for morale and return to core values is to take all the Maori Seats. The old campaigner of Winston First will take more votes than the Greens. Winston, the same as Shane Jones, will not sit at a Cabinet Table with any Green Party people. Mana with 1% is pointless for Labour and another reason for middle NZ to vote Winston First. Gain 1%, loose 2-4 %.

  4. “The desire for ‘Labour led’ Government language was so that it could include MANA and NZ First.”

This is simply not true. The Greens have said explicitly that they are open to working with NZF and MANA so that can’t be the reason. The reason was to appease Shane Jones and others in their caucus who prefer to work with Winston and shut out the Greens if they can. But this “strategy” just puts Labour in the position of being unable to describe what the next govt will actually do, so that people are unable to make a clear choice between Key and a real alternative. This will only lose Labour votes to both the Greens and NZF.
