A brief word on the 6.8% jump for Labour

Cunliffe has managed to do more for Labour in a month than Shearer did in 20 months. What the bloody hell were the ABCs playing at? The only way to beat that kind of tribalism is with the cudgels of success, and a 6.8% leap is about as big a successful cudgel as one could hope for.

The reason this is so significant is because these landline polls favor National, so a 6.8% jump could actually be be closer to 10%.

Watching the mainstream media punditry who have been singing in chorus first that David Shearer could do the job, then in proclaiming Grant Robertson as the lead contender to now screaming the centre to dissuade Cunliffe of a left wing political platform suggests the msm are as out of touch as the beltway ABCs.

That Labour has gained without really impacting the Green vote is proof that Labour doesn’t need to bash or attack the Greens as so many pundits have proclaimed. I think a lot of these precious oracles need to get out of Wellington way more than they are. This is becoming embarrassing now.

NZers want a left wing alternative to Key and are coming off the fence in droves to support Labour under Cunliffe. Real followers of politics should view with dismal indifference these same voices who have been wrong for so long, I was half expecting to see in my twitter feed a tweet proclaiming Matthew Hooton had suffered a stroke while screaming ‘lies’.

I’m going to explore why Labour strategically should view MMP and a strong Green/MANA vote as a strength rather than a threat in my next post tomorrow.

    • And the MSM tools who believed them have been served a triple backhand of reality. Not that I expect it to prompt Garner, Gower, Watkins, Soper, etc. to open their eyes and re-evaluate how painfully wrong they’ve been about it in any way, but at least the ABCs will be eating some cold, humble pie.

Spot on. The Herald Digipoll showed that convincingly. Labour’s gain was at National’s expense, without cannibalising Green support.

We’re on the way, peeps. Stamped on National’s brand should be: “Use By Date: Nov 2014”.
