  1. The real Judith Collins is like the moustache of Romero’s Joker. You can try and hide it with make-up, but we can all see it.

  2. One additional bit of information: Despite the “heavy seas” reported by Collins, Luxon and the Naval officer at presser, the actual wind speed at the time was only 8 knots: Half the wind speed I would be happy to go kayaking in! So not that heavy. Certainly not a problem for a vessel designed to service oil rigs off Norway in winter.

Of the 6 NZDF vessels, 4 are captained by women: The Manawanui has sunk. The skipper of the Canterbury has reportedly been stood down for unknow reasons and the Te Kaha rammed the dockside at Kauri Point, so yet another investigation has begun over that. Overall, this is quite a batting average!

Fundamentally DEI means that they’re going to promote someone who is not necessarily the best person for the job. As a consequence, the hypothetically more competent person who was overlooked (presumably because they are straight, male and white) will quit and find a job where their talents are properly recognized. All while morale sinks as well as ships.

  3. Likely to be loss of propulsion/ power? Isnt there some kind of pattern developing here? Awatere aground in the Marlbourough Sounds, the Bluebridge ferry Connemara adrift in the Straights.

    1. Last yr there was a major fuel contamination in the fuel tanks in the Navy’s new Fleet Support Ship was trace back to Navy’s bulk fuel supply which was trace back to imported fuel.

It’s quite strange that we are having these problems since Marsden Pt closed!

I wonder what other quality controls issues we would expect from other Imported POL products? I’ve read that Road Construction Companies have been complaining about the poor quality of Tar & Asphalt products since Marsden Pt closed?

If my assumptions are correct? NZ has a major problem with quality & assurance controls with NZ Imported POL products since Marsden Pt closed.

NZ’s Aviation POL requirements come from Geelong/ Altona Victoria Australia which also supplies Australia including the ADF and the company is registered in the top 50 on the ASX which I once had Shares in.

So I’m quite sure that NZ Aviation Sector is safe from the looming Fuel quality control problem especially if the RNZN Court Of Inquiry does find that the sinking of the Dive Support & Hydrographic Ship lost of power was due to contaminated Imported fuel which lead further issues with the Ships handling & sinking.

  4. Collins is bleating about the very slim chance that she might have had 75 body bags but she expected Jacinda to leave the country open and not bother with vaccines and have at least 30k body bags .

  5. Andrew: some confusion over the weather seems to be the Apia weather station being used to report weather for Samoa when it is on the other side of the island which was quite calm. I had to double check because all the other reports said it was windy and at dawn it was definitely a strong breeze. Same with sea condition, seems the swells were not massive, but rather choppy. Bad enough that the usual fishermen were not venturing out, however it was not a storm.

Also contrary to earlier reports it did not go down in a marine reserve. There are small areas adjoining the shore within the reef that are reserves but not the outer reef area where she is.

  6. How many $100M boats have been sunk since WWII during peace times? Does anyone seriously not see the problem here?

    1. The excuses for this disaster just keep on coming from the media and govt. We need to face the facts: DEI hires are going to cost lives if we keep going down this road of “diversity at all costs”.

      1. Oh well, excuses aside, let’s just wait for the report shall we. Until then it’s all speculation, and I dare say a touch of gender bashing.

  7. Stop all this crap about DEI hires. She was well qualified for the job, check out her c.v which lists extensive navel experience. Her gender and sexual orientation would not be brought up at all in connection with this disaster if she were a man with the same C.V. It wouldn’t even figure so all yous citing DEI hire as a reason for this, check your prejudice. You are waving it around like a flag.
