The latest attack on the Māori electorates from Winston Peters rests on a claim that simply doesn’t stack up. If the numbers don’t support the argument, the politics certainly does — and that’s where this debate becomes dangerous.

The Data Shows the Māori Roll Is Growing
He claims the Māori roll has been dropping, this is simply a lie – it has increased by over 16,000 since the last election and in fact the majority of Māori are on the Māori Roll as opposed to the General Roll.
Majority Rule vs Minority Rights
Asking the majority to decide the rights of the minority is the worst abuse of power. Winston’s shtick for the last 40 years has been the Māori who kicks other Māori and the angry whites love him for it.
He is gleefully playing to the worst angels of our nature and that should be condemned not celebrated.
