  1. ‘I know a woman in her 30s, she is a cleaner and she has been told by her company that they are running out of work because migrant workers from India and Asia are undermining wages and they are losing contracts’

A novel approach I know but perhaps the parties on the left should consider how to actually help people in her situation. Various state income supplements etc are just band aids that don’t solve the problem and you just fall further and further behind.

Structural change to both the economy and employment are needed, get rid of sham contracting arrangements that force wages down, investigate and get rid of employers that are using back handed payments to circumvent NZ employment and immigration law. Criminalize wage theft and then start taking the bastards to court.
