  1. I am of the opinion that some teachers were more interested in social engineering than quality teaching from my experience with public education in the 1970s although having an education minister like you describe is obviously a far greater problem. I started my education in the late 1960s in a church school so there was no social engineering there. I have since met many teachers over the years and found them to be thoroughly decent people so I can understand their concern about the current minister of education.

    1. “I started my education in the late 1960s in a church school so there was no social engineering there.”

      lol – great satire

  2. Quality teaching is being achieved by Erica hence the criticism visited upon her by the Left.

    1. And how would you know bob you’re not from here and didn’t go to school here like many of us

      1. Judging by Bob’s stupidity it’s clear he never went to school and suffered a head injury at a young age. His parents(he’s not sure who they are) drummed the anti-union movement into him even though they were allowed to have lunch breaks and holidays BECAUSE of unions. His rights wing politics remains a stain on the population of NZ hence his need to post on TDB his right-wing hysterics. The highly right wing Taxpayers Union and Federated farmers union demonstrates his complete lack of knowledge on NZ politics.

  3. Old saying, a bit worn but still with some life in it – ‘If it ain’t broke then don’t fix it’.

  4. Gr8 article AA. The more we see and hear about Stanford’s ‘wonderment’ the more suspicious and scared we become. She’s not stupid, but she definitey has the same unbelievable arrogance and self-assurance that her way is the best and only way. Where on earth do they find these ‘jumped up’ people? Why can’t we stop her in her tracks and insist that she take some giant steps back to allow a proper and democratic process to unfold, which is clearly needed. What’s the rush – why is this CoC in such a hurry? Stanford should not be allowed to thrust her views upon her peers, without discussion, and then dismiss those who challenge her. How can’t she see this? This lot are so puffed up with their own importance, it’s embarrassing and dangerous. She has to be Stopped NOW, she’s completely Out of Control!

  5. Teaching kids to learn to read and write and do basic maths is something that was readily achieved in the past.

So, yeah, the solutions are easy. It’s just whether anyone has the will to implement them.

Ms Stanford is at least giving it a go.

    1. Please come back and apologise to us all in a few years when it become obvious that her efforts have not been successful.
It’s not the system that is the problem.

  6. Yes Erica Stanford is doing things for our youth whereas previous ministers and educators protected the teachers.
