WAATEA NEWS COLUMN: Another week – another threat from the Government towards Māori
This Government claim they are not anti-Māori or anti-Treaty yet almost every single month there is a new needless attack on Māori.
This time it is Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith’s threat to remove tikanga Māori from court rulings???
What on earth?
Tikanga Māori inside our Court system is a strength and a protection, it’s not a weakness!
As this Government continues to open NZ up for foreign investment/exploitation, they are finding Court rulings that favour indigenous rights are making that investment/exploitation less attractive, hence the Justice Minister threatening to remove those rulings altogether to make that investment/exploitation by foreign corporations more appealing.
Why on earth we would collectively allow the dismantling of tikanga Māori from the Court so as to facilitate our investment/exploitation from these offshore corporations hasn’t been explained to us because the Minister seems hopeful that just bashing Māori rights will be seen as enough of a justification from the rights angry reactionary voting base.
Tikanga in our Courts has created a protection against the very exploitation Minster Goldsmith is now pushing for, dismantling it so Transnational Corporations can reap from us our resources is vampire capitalism at its worst!
Tikanga Māori isn’t a ‘bespoke’ law that simply benefits Māori, it protects all the interests of Kiwis living here, it is a way of ensuring we aren’t robbed blind by foreign corporations, what Minister Goldsmith is pushing for is a Quisling Capitalism that opens the nation up to be exploited.
It is ugly politics, but that seems to be what we have come to expect from this Government.
It’s OK Martyn let them take this cultural window dressing away because it really doesn’t favor Maori being sent to prison it’s all tokenism hiding behind a Karakia and cultural reports that doesn’t favor no Maori that appears before a Judge unless you have money and influence which is very rare in the Maori world.
The white wash that fails the colonists because Te Reo and Maori are not going away no matter how much the COC tries .And the COC needs to remember these things will be back after the next election .
They waste their time with this linguicide agenda. Surely, they ought to be more worried about how they will replace all the jobs they’ve scrapped, the ferries, the infrastructure, the unemployed they’ve created and all the hundreds of other mistakes they’ve made.
How does it benefit any govt. to kill the tax-base. Are they going to work for free themselves?
