So he’s decided to go full Trump…

Trump declares national emergency to build US-Mexico border wall
Donald Trump has defied fierce criticism to announce that he is using emergency powers to bypass Congress and pursue the building of a wall on the US-Mexico border.

At a combative, rambling and at times incoherent press conference in the White House, the US president insisted he had no choice but to declare a national emergency to stop illegal immigrants spreading crime and drugs.

Yet Trump admitted that he did not “need” to take the step now and was only doing so for speed. Opponents seized on the remark to accuse him of falsehoods and fearmongering for political ends, describing the move as “unlawful” and a violation of the US constitution.

…after getting roasted by his base for his capitulation on the shut down with nothing to show, Trump has manufactured a national emergency so he can build his bloody wall so that when he goes back to his angry electorate in 2020 he can show them he’s completed their collective vanity project.

This madness will of course be challenged all the way until he gets it to the Supreme Court where he will hope his conservative picks give him the political win he so desperately needs.

It’s a high risk manoeuvre using fear, spite and malicious intent, but if he pulls it off, the win could clinch him 2020.

It seems so obscene that something as wilfully Machiavellian and toxic as this might gain someone power in a democracy.

America is being tested because Trump is the emergency.

  1. Unbefucknbelievable Its ok for NZ to restrict Chinese and other immigration but Trump has to allow all and sundry into America to meet your high standards of “ethics”
