  1. TOP’s tactic is to persuade the electorate that Gareth Morgan represents the top 20%. He doesn’t. He represents the 0.001%. Of course, he should pay more. That goes without saying, doesn’t it?

It shouldn’t apply to those at the thin end of that wedge. Introducing a flat tax for the top 20% will hurt many who are struggling in the middle. I suspect Gareth doesn’t like the middle class very much if he’s willing to cut off their head whilst pretending to take the burden himself. Yet again, the very wealthy will sacrifice the struggling middle with their flat tax and pretence that they’re in the same boat. They are not even in the same ocean.

    1. The people of Johnsonville which form the Electorate of Ōhāriu, have helped in the terrible nine year decline of the middle class of New Zealand by voting for years for a chap called Peter Dunne.

Through him they have helped in the low wage structure of NZ Employees, thereby accounting for punishing high rentals and low and cold damp sick housing.

Peter Dunne the comfortable member for Ōhāriu in the National Parliament knows that he led this shocking treatment of Wellingtonians and did not lift a finger for any but the wealthy.

Anybody who runs for Dunne’s party cannot hold a candle to the integrity of a Greg O’Connor who worked for the whole of New Zealand – fairly and justly. As he will if elected on 23rd September 2017.

Also, as the uncouth Gareth Morgan exists solely for the extremely wealthy sector of New Zealand, he is completely and hopelessly out of touch with how most Kiwis live and survive. Jenny is correct.

    2. A flat tax will never be introduced except in conjunction with a UBI. A flat tax coupled with a UBI is equivalent to a progressive tax system.

Incidently Gareth Hughes is no the Green candidate in Ohariu. The current candidate is Tane Woodley, who also stood for the Green Party in 2014.

      1. Flat tax – roger douglas, bob jones, rodney hyde and several others whose pockets are lined by stand for Trans National Investors.

The poor pay more tax than the rich when it comes to a percentage of their income. GST does that and NACT increased the rate.

      2. A flat tax is a flat tax. It does nothing to help close the gap between fat cat earners and those on poverty wages.

A UBI does not punish those who pay a pittance. In fact, it enables the corporate welfare scroungers and encourages them to pay peanuts.

The wealth is concentrated in the top 10% and even more so in the top 5%. Address the problem.
