  1. … ” It was all there: forceful statements on immigration [although interestingly nuanced, perhaps in response to the Greens’ immanent critique. More on that later]; serious commitments to economic justice through opposing foreign ownership and corporate raids disguised as investment; anguished howls about unrepresentative bureaucrats and other (not always unelected) decision-makers being seriously out of touch with the opinion of the ordinary Kiwi; up-to-the-minute cutting references to his opponents; and an absolute, evangelist’s insistence upon rolling back both Rogernomics and Ruthanasia in order to institute a proper, post-Neoliberal economic paradigm ” …

    ………………………………..

This paragraph , captures much of the mood of the nation as well as recent media coverage. Particularly the last sentence. However , you do realize that there are two forces that need to be dealt with in order to deal the fatal blow to neo liberalism to truly return the country back to a nationalist government directed economy….

    1) Treasury. This must be returned and placed directly under govt regulation and supervision. Such as it was pre 1984. Treasury is the heart and soul of the deregulated neo liberal free market – and because of that deregulated free market , – more than anything else, the root cause of so many of the negative knock on effects we now see in our society.

    2) Recognition of the unwarranted influence of bodies such as the New Zealand Institute on successive governments monetary and social policy’s . Unelected private bodies without an elected mandate to do so such as the NZI have been responsible for plying successive neo liberal governments with action plans using reports biased towards their interests coupled with donations to the incumbent govt’s. It has been such as these that have influenced the sale of so many of our state owned assets to their advantage and the privatization of our banking system and they are still in that mode of operation today.

This unelected manipulation must stop. And their interests must be made compliant and therefore subservient to the best interests of the voting people of this country and its government just like any other group , individual , – or corporate.

… ” what we got was measured criticism of the Greens in the same sentence as rarking up of Labour and National ” …

    …………………………………

Which is the best policy if there is to be any decision made regarding potential coalition with both Labour and the Greens. No one wants to see an ugly slanging match at this critical election. It will only be used against anything constructive that could be assembled – particularly by National who would be in 7th heaven watching the opposition tearing each other apart.

Now , it may be a long shot ,… but the hard question needs to be asked:

Could it be possible that the Greens have had talks with the Maori party? And in doing so , – have attempted to form a bloc to unite against NZ First ?

In which doing so they might feel confidant to throw down the ‘racist ‘ tag…

And are some senior members of NZ First aware of that and wish to neutralize any future dealings by putting the Maori seats to a referendum?… and destroying the coat tailing ability by lessening parliament numbers ?

I’m sure that has also been on the minds of a quite a few onlookers… that perhaps it is so and was done to lessen the influence of any NZ First concessions.

    ………………………………..

… ” the real racists’ in New Zealand Politics were presumably those who’d allowed in upwards of seventy thousand people per year without first ensuring there was adequate provision of housing, schools, healthcare, infrastructure, and other elements of state spending for them once they got here ” …

    ……………………………….

Exactly. It has been National who have cynically exploited immigration for manifold reasons , all of which are core towards advancing their neo liberal goals :

One being obviously to create a runaway boom in real estate – which not only guarantees them a pool of votes loyal to National through landlords and homeowners seeing hard cash being generated passively right before their very eyes…

But also , by not tightening up on land sales to foreign interests ensures perpetuation of the above and also ease of sales of our sensitive land areas such as farms and lucrative tourist areas to cashed up foreigners.

Not to mention foreign speculators artificially manipulating our domestic housing stock with no concern whatsoever to the effects it has on ordinary New Zealand citizens.

And along with that , – with the proliferation of sham educational establishments , loose residency loopholes and un-monitored overseas agents allows a ‘ back door ‘ into the country … which more often than not results in those same recent immigrants working for below the minimum wage , in conditions that no Kiwi would accept , – further weakening wages and conditions and Trade Unions ability to campaign for fairness.

Any mention of curtailing immigration numbers and tightening up on conditions of entry is so often immediately met with the charge of being ‘Racist’ . And yet those same people somehow turn a blind eye towards all these negative adverse consequences that are the direct result of out of control and irresponsible immigration settings that have been left that way to pander to a small political elites overall self interests.

    ………………………………..

… ” There was a definite and pervasive ‘mood for change’ from many of the people I spoke to at Convention. A keen and keening awareness that the dominant politico-economic paradigm of New Zealand for some thirty three years now – and which has reached a recent apotheosis under National after several terms of moderation under Clark – just simply isn’t working and ought be disposed of forthwith ” …

    ………………………………..

And of course you are talking here about neo liberalism.

And further on down it appears you are suggesting NZ First is heading to the cross benches – C /S. And yet we have a situation that Labour / Greens wouldn’t quite have the numbers to form a government on their own….

Naively I would say the only way to start dismantling neo liberalism – if that is what is truly indeed for the betterment of this country and its people – would be to be part of a Labour / Green / NZ First coalition.

Yet I notice that between ALL THREE party’s you hit all the high notes of the most pressing and popular concerns. I would say it would be a lost opportunity to finally make big headway into negating the destructive effects of neo liberalism in New Zealand if NZ First was not part of that coalition.
