  1. Only One Council Possibly Worse Run than Tauranga Award…

    Goes to Auckland City.

Blown $1.4 BILLION of public money in a loan hedging disaster.

Spend ups galore in the tens of millions on cycle lanes to sooth an over blown tiny minority hobby lobby group of smart kids. Kudos to Greater Aucklands ability to turn a tiny echo chamber in a spending machine for shit we don’t really need right now or can afford because local body politicians can’t think.

Add to that massive expenditure on all things Americas Cup and turning whole streets into playgrounds again at massive expense.

Fail to plan our adjust to population growth on steroids in part thanks to Nationals sugar high economic model and in part zero foresight by Auckland Council meaning cut backs on water infrastructure equalling fecal polluted harbours on one hand and water shortages in the other. And upping the salary for the big cheese of Watercare to over $800 grand during this self inflicted clusterfuck.

A charity paying huge money to unspeakable numbers of executive staff.

Now looking at closing public facilities, shutting libraries, selling parks no less and other ratepayer owned assets all because of this abysmally run colossus of a failed council model. Its all the fault of a virus apparently.

Goff, start planning for retirement, today. And the rest of the talentless dead wood in this useless council clipping tickets.

Minister Mahuta, please intervene because this council has failed and this cannot continue!

    1. “…selling parks no less and other ratepayer owned assets…”

This Auckland City ratepayer is all in for selling off a few of the council’s many publicly funded golf courses for state housing development. Let’s start with Remuera which takes up a vast swathe of the most valuable land in the country while paying peppercorn rates on its perpetual lease.

      1. Sell Eden Park to the government for a social housing multilevel complex. Fantastic public transport amenities, handy to most things and a pleasant area.

It would be a win win, stop this white elephant costing ratepayers millions every year sitting idle and have a lot of land to build up and out. Would do a lot for waiting lists!

Go on Auckland Council, put our money where your mouth is.

  2. I don’t get the solidarity section.
The right wing voters were the most into lockdown and peeking behind the curtains at those breaking the rules and calling the “authorities”. They had the most risk of dying, the most to lose, and in their untrammelled self interest demanded the borders be closed, to protect them. To hell with the economy.
It was only the far right business lobby that called for the status quo, the Kirks and the Michaels.
That is why Labour won with such a resounding victory.
National’s supporters were acting out of self interest.
Along with those on the left of course, who felt threatened. That’s why you end up with an MMP majority.
