The fantasy world of Alfred Ngaro
The National Party are currently flying a kite to see if the public would accept National MP Alfred Ngaro as leader of a conservative Christian party which could help National at the next election. The theory is that such a conservative Christian party could bring in 3 or 4 percent of the party vote. This on its own would not be enough to bring in any MPs but if National were to give Ngaro a free run in Botany, just as National gives David Seymour a free ride in Epsom, Ngaro could bring in 4 or 5 MPs to support a National government.
So what does Alfred Ngaro bring to politics?
Firstly Ngaro is a particularly nasty political operator. I saw him at a public meeting blame the Glen Innes community for the many social problems which have bedevilled all New Zealand’s low-income communities and use that to justify National social cleansing the area for the rich.
Later he told me “state housing creates dependency” as his sound bite to justify driving low-income families from their state homes.
There must be another side to Ngaro but I’ve never seen a hint of it elsewhere.
Secondly Ngaro is a Christian Zionist who, like Israel Folau, believes the Old Testament is the literal word of God and a factual account of the history of the Jewish people as opposed to an “origin myth” which most human tribes from the beginning of time have developed to give their people a sense of pride, self-belief and unity in the face of adversity.
Recent archaeological research closes the lid on Christian Zionism’s views. Back in 1999 Zeev Hertzog, Professor of Archaeology at Tel Aviv university, and later Director of its Institute of Archaeology from 2005 to 2010 wrote:
“This is what archaeologists have learned from their excavations in the Land of Israel: the Israelites were never in Egypt, did not wander in the desert, did not conquer the land in a military campaign and did not pass it on to the 12 tribes of Israel. All this will be water off a duck’s back to Ngaro who, aside from being the National MP who has asked the most questions of the new government (14,000 which included 1000 in a single day) as a way to obstruct and frustrate the coalition, has spent his time on the back bench trying to establish a parliamentary Friends of Israel group.
The photo shows him in 2018 with the Israeli ambassador Dr Itzhak Gerberg and Deputy Chief of Mission Kasa Bainesay-Harbor and several other National MPs – Tim McIndoe, Todd Muller, Nuk Koraka, Jian Yang and Paul Goldsmith.
Whatever Ngaro may offer the country as a conservative Christian leader it won’t be compassion, tolerance, justice or truth. Instead it will be a conservative straitjacket of bigotry, arrogance and injustice.
I wonder if they will call for the beheading of all who disagree?

I just want to know less about the political speak and more about how interested the fringies are in a new new conservatives like Breitbart. Get any gossip on that or nah?

Been reading, a ‘National Geographic’ (which I have to return to the fish and chip shop) about the Christian exodus from the Holy Land, and if I were a man and if he were a man, I’d have a face-to-face with Alfie about it.

I’m of the firm view that politics and religion should never mix.
Yet they quite obviously do mix. The government guarantees freedoms of religion through the social contract and the Hunan rights act. If it wasn’t then many lives would have been lost in vain through the very real bills all wars alone.

I disagree the Salvation army pick up people from the gutter and do the job that the bloody government should be doing. We should not need all the charitable organisations we have in this country. If the tax take was better – and it could be don’t get me started – then some of the organisations would not be needed.
Look at the money they use chasing benefit fraud which is $30m a year, the same amount of money is also used for chasing IRD fraud which is billions of dollars, but let’s do over the poorest…..

Where exactly is current conservative Christian vote placed at the moment? I would assume it is already on the right, probably with National. So wouldn’t the growth of Ngaro’s party vote come at the cost of National’s party vote?
Or are they hoping he will appeal to Polynesian voters? Then it would be interesting to see the party list beyond the leader. How many Pacific Islanders would National be comfortable working with?
Or is this another ploy to bring NZ First below the 5% threshold?
As for the Botany electorate, it may be time for Labour and Green voters to strategically vote for Jami-Lee Ross. The lesser of two evils.

Christian Zionism is just the other side of the same coin that is neo liberal ideology. This is demonstrated perfectly in the USA where Trump and Bolton co-habitate with ease with the likes of Pompeo who believes that Trump was brought to power to do gods work in bringing on the rapture and Pence who also puts Israels divine path ahead of Americans. For Trump all this is part of the bargain with Sheldon Adelson who is a huge donor of both Trump and Netanyahu.
It would be nice to think that nzers could see through this kind of bollocks but I’m not so sure. There are signs that Europe and especially Merkel may be beginning to see that the only thing that matters to these people are wars and more wars because you know, you got to feed the impossible fantasy of infinite growth on the one hand and the rapture fantasy which entails the small matter of an armageddon on the other hand.
