   At a select committee today, Green Party MP Catherine Delahunty said children at a Manawatu primary school had handled assault rifles as part of a Defence Force experience.

   Education Minister Nikki Kaye said there were no guidelines on such matters, but she’d been assured the school had not broken the law.
   She had asked however for some official rules to be drawn up, she said.
   She said she personally did not think firearms should be taken into schools, but that there were some “very rare” exceptions.
