Send in the clowns. New looking building !!! Back in about 1960 Nelson pulled down about a century old building the Provincial Buildings I think. The floor was beginning to go and other maintenance needed. But now if something lasts 10-20 years it’s good. Shoddy work for a great little country thank you, you bludgers in politics, and you cutters of quality for profit smarmy business and PMC sell-outs of our country. The tradespeople are still there and careful, but the taxpayer doesn’t get the best work as there are rorts in the construction. Used to be knots in the wood, but they don’t use as much these days, and probably pine offcuts imported from foreign parts with serious rorts if inspected.
This is the 21sr century and still treating people as if we were in a theocracy of the Dark Ages! We go on about free speech and wanting people able to abuse or disparage others in their world if they feel like it.
This woman wants to be treated kindly and professionally but her wants are countermanded by rigid, conservatism of the unthinking. The medical profession may not agree on her condition, but why is the system fixated on not letting her or any adult die if really wanting to? At present you still are overruled. have to jump through hoops if you are dreadfully ill, but must have a special decree to decide if your condition ticks all boxes; that you are fit for your coffin.

The woman, whose name is suppressed, has a long and complicated history of health issues and has spent large portions of the past seven years in hospital.
While she and her family believe she suffers from gastroparesis, a physical condition affecting the stomach, there has never been any medical evidence that she has the condition.
Instead, she’s been diagnosed with a factitious disorder, a mental health condition in which the sufferer consciously self-induces, feigns or exaggerates physical or psychiatric symptoms to receive medical care.
It cannot be treated with medication….
Considering that most people don’t care much about others, and neoliberal politicians seem to have lost their mojo for living and loving all, this lacks compassion, and reason as well. Also I draw attention to Oranga Tamariki behaviour, and Lake Alice, and what has continued since Janet Frame’s time, and how the left were keen to sell the institutions, handing handicapped people to society; usually some poor woman or family with limited resources. (As long as they didn’t regularly visit to enjoy Parliament in session for their daily activity.)
It is hypocrisy and callousness to stand in the way of personal decisions by adults. There has to be a rule, made clear, to guard against misadventure, but why should this person have to starve to death? Is the person being punished for not wanting to stick around, (it’s okay for us so why should she want special treatment….We have to put up with …so why….?) It’s enough to make you despair at those who want authority in our warped society.
