Prisoners held in solitary confinement for 900 days, report finds
Some prisoners housed in the Corrections’ Extreme Risk Unit have spent over 900 days in solitary confinement – a breach of international human rights, where the maximum is 15 days.

It is the first time the unit, which was set up in 2019 in the wake of the Christchurch terror attacks, has been inspected by the Office of the Inspectorate.

PERU, at Auckland Prison, houses prisoners considered by Corrections to present a high ongoing level of risk, including some who pose a very high risk of violence and some who are involved in transnational organised crime.

There were currently 13 people being managed in the PERU.

Chief Inspector Janis Adair acknowledged the prisoners needed additional measures to be managed safely.

“However, despite this, we found conditions in the PERU to be overly and unnecessarily restrictive,” she said.

NZ/AO is debasing itself and us each minute we continue in our present political system with the economics and wealth hunters being the tail wagging the dog. The people in prison are just the creatures operated by the system and are a force of degenerates being used against the rest of us – all become worse off. The picture of the violent old man (or woman) that was up here the other day is what is happening to we helpless dolls and victims.

  2. Is the South Island West Coast a third world country? Their hospital services are casual or non-existent. What will the great Lester Levy (ex South Africa) do about that. After all theyin South Africa they have long been used to being privileged people in a third world country! Fact. I think that this approach is what all ordinary NZ people will see here in NZ/AO – it suits the megawealthy who are buying us up and pushing us down.

    1. Coasters have been absolutely screwed for too long. The rats from National and Labour would both close even the Greymouth hospital for good if they could get away with it. They’ve already forced most people with more complex health needs to need to commute regularly to Chch for treatment.
