  1. Mass surveillance and data collection concerns, you say? What was your view on contact tracing and vaccine passports, Martyn?

      1. The fact they were even implemented was an abuse and misuse of power.

But since you asked, here’s this:

        https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2022/nov/09/victorians-covid-contact-tracing-data-sent-to-authority-for-potential-use-by-palantir

“The platform, Palantir, was founded by US tech billionaire Peter Thiel, one of former US president Donald Trump’s biggest donors in 2016. It has previously attracted criticism over its use by the US military, immigration agencies and spy agencies, and its application in predictive policing systems.

A Victoria department of health spokesperson confirmed that in July 2020 the department investigated using the Palantir platform for a new contact tracing tool”

“Dreyfus said she is concerned that even if the mobility data was destroyed at the end of the project, it is unclear whether additional datasets or analysis were generated during the trial, and what became of those.”

    1. Stick to the point treacle fingers, affordable and frequent public transport being the main consideration. Don’t widen the issue to everything contentious til it’s impossible to join the edges. You have time on your hands to dabble in the gutters with the ornery people?

  2. Will Hipkins come out and promise No Congestion Charges, No Mass Surveillance?

Or is Labour down with, the war on cars and the war on freedom.

      1. I recall he already said he doesn’t want to run a government that just rolls back the work of s previous government.

  3. They’re already doing automatic number plate recognition mass surveillance with the traffic cameras, which is frequently abused by Police, but this would indeed make that total across Auckland (and no doubt soon Wellington and Christchurch if it succeeded in Auckland) instead of just covering major urban areas and the highways.

  4. Thank you Martyn for the heads up on a subject dear to the vast majority. Kiwis love their cars due to the necessity of running one. There is no tradition of using taxis, daily bread and milk deliveries or well maintained and reasonably priced/free public transport as in the northern hemisphere. Rural roads are a killer on the tyres, chassis, shocks, etc. and the ongoing maintenance is a financial drain. Driving through Auckland is difficult, now the piecemeal planning becomes apparent in light of the intended curb on the populus.
