  1. I’m offended by these goose looking boomer fuckwits wearing shorts, tshirts and flip flops to the inaugural meeting.

It’s not a fucking barbeque you losers, show some respect for the office and the occasion.

But they’re too busy indulging in performative dickheadedness to bother with that.

    1. Yes Cinder dark pin stripe suits, white shirt, spotted tie and brogues should be the minimum.

      1. You old ratfink BNob1st. Shut up for once, how does anyone put up with You at home? Don’t unload your incontinent words on us.

  2. Is Martyn going woke? Fair enough to be disappointed at people who don’t share your appreciation for Maori culture but in the big scheme of things it is not an issue that needs making a stand on.

    1. Bonnie lives in 19th century where it was normal for redneck honkies to murder a colored person because of the color of his skin wake the fuck up bro European exceptionalism is dying and the faster the better for humanity

      1. Your memory is obviously failing, I consistently support fair race relations and that there is only 1 human race. I certainly do not support any racism based on the colour of people’s skin so you are completely out of line with your accusations.
A karakia is no different to religious people wanting to say a prayer and I respect people’s right not to want any religion imposed on them so while I do not leave if someone wants to have a karakia it doesn’t bother me if people don’t want to listen also. We have more than enough serious problems in NZ including in how the Maori people are treated so there’s no need to inflame minor issues so that any chance of progress is hindered. You only need to look at the division over the trans community or the even more recent division within TMP (I gave them my party vote last election because I thought that they had the most sensible tax policy) to see that needless conflict is not the way to achieve worthwhile results.

        1. Bonnie I agree with what you say but please see that these old boots could have sat there for the 30 seconds .After all Maori have had the national anthem and God save the queen shoved down their throats for 200 years and that takes longer than 30 seconds

    2. Practicality seems your middle name Bonnie and usually very good. But I think that this matter is quite illustrative of a number of defects in the bored Board, supposedly reflecting an integrated community with respectful values about ell in the community, which is something I pray for in my own quiet way, and your feelings on this …well?

      1. Yes I’m sure that you’re correct and that the men have other issues and the Whangamata Community Board would only represent a small section of society, the % of people voting is 1 obvious reason. The political process seems to encourage a certain type of personality on all sides which is usually not the best way to achieve decent results for all the community. Norm Kirk is the first politician that I remember growing up and we have not had someone with his vision since. I can vaguely remember Keith Holyoake as well and the National Party would be a better option if they had someone with his values instead of the free market ideologues that have destroyed the countries social fabric.
I put my faith in a higher power as it’s fairly obvious that we are unable to solve the multiple problems on our own.

    3. Incorrect Bonnie. If it was not an issue that needs making a stand on, why did those men get up and leave. Interestingly they were pale stale white elderly male, I wonder why that is. Best disregard Bob agreeing with you, he comes across as severely impaired and is obviously another pale stale old white male.

  3. Attended multicultural meetings where the number of Te Reo speakers was zero. When the Maori lady bought in specially to invoke the blessings on the meeting we simply asked it be spoken in English.

So all could benefit from the blessing.

So instead of walking out, ask for the blessing be spoken in English. Simple and respectful.

  4. Personally I think karakia”s are a total waste of time and nothing more than virtue signaling for a lot of people.

    1. Does that mean the new catholic school seemore is funding as a charter school is a waste of time to James Brown.

    2. A bit like the feeling I have after reading your comments James B. If you haven’t anything of value to say about us having and respecting reasonable values, then I would value the time I spent on reading your missive, of better value elsewhere.

  5. I’m wondering if in the past, were these council meetings secular affairs with a separation of church and state or was the christian Lord’s Prayer recited? Anyone know.

    1. The issue there is that there is still (I believe) a “parliamentary prayer” which fails the same separation of church and state test.

I kind of don’t care if a blessing is called down on a meeting although talking to friends in the public service it has become crazy the amount of time spent. I have no issue with Maori and “Western” culture integrating together. But if i choose not to ask Atua for a blessing then that’s my right as well, the same as my right not to ask “almighty God” for one.

    2. Don’t worry, David Seymour’s people would never allow Christian prayers in honor of the Prophet Jesus, or as they call him in their holy book the Talmud, Yeshu who is boiling in s*men.

  6. So Maori have had to listen to an unofficial language for 200 years but these old cunts can’t listen for 1 minute. What a bunch of sag folk they are .And as for the dress code they need to lift their standards .

      1. Yes Bg and you will learn something else new, in just a few seconds I predict. You will find the meaning of the saying ‘We live in interesting times’ over the few years left to you before your program is wiped.

  7. Banjo rednecks are a dime a dozen in Aotearoa this type of microaggression is all too familiar with Maori and I believe the wider P.O.C globally. These colonists have no respect for indigenous peoples; the fatigue is immeasurable becoming tiresome which is desensitising

    1. Perhaps do some research on NZ history Bob. Gordon is correct and then work on your grammar, it is appalling(did dredge?).

Te Reo Māōri was the only language in New Zealand until the 19th century. There was no written word; therefore, they communicated through symbolism. The detailing in carvings, knots and weavings were the way Māori recorded stories; while traditional songs and dances shared the myths and folklore of their ancestors.

In 1814, the European missionaries first attempted to transcribe Te Reo Māori.

    2. English was an unofficial language in NZ till after the last election and the law making it official is among the many rushed through in the first 100 days along with sinking ferries and not building more houses .You are so thick Google it

  8. The board members who walked out are of the ilk of the older white male feral MAGA hat wearing right-wing down the rabbit hole conspiracy adherents brain-washed by Trump, who refuse to respect the culture of another people, in this case Maori New Zealanders.

Even if they did not agree with the Karakia, they could at least have shown some basic respect and remained in their seats silent while it was conducted. The irony is that in walking out, they revealed their own vacuous souls.

  9. I think the man is an idiot, but seriously – the only invocation I think they should have is “Okay, let’s get down to work.” I’m paying their fucking wages for Christ’s sake.

  10. Clearly they are way to old and like myself should have turned down the offer to sit there and collect a top up of their pension at the rate payers expense .Us over 65 should step aside and let the younger ones decide what things should look like for their kids in the future .Mind you the way they are in central government that might be a disaster

  11. Oh My God this is such a fucking joke. Only…. It isn’t. As our dear Taika Waititi to shock and horror (pearl clutching) said “ NZ is fucking racist”
