  1. Good on you, Louisa -this is well past time.

As Matt Vickers (Lecretia Seales’ husband) said, we have freedom of religion in this country. That means any New Zealander is able to donate tax-free to Destiny Church so they can buy “Bishop” Brian a bigger boat if they choose to. I respect their right to do so.

In return, it’s time they respected my personal autonomy and the right to make my own end-of-life choices.

  2. … Will the government-appointed “experts” get to decide if the person goes to heaven or not?

“The ethics committee would be comprised of experts in diagnostic medicine, psychiatry, ethics, Maori tikanga, disability, elderly care and law.” No socially oriented mental health expertise? I hope that that’s implied.

The only problem I have with this is to do with the “experts”.

No one except the person themselves ought to have that kind of power. I would not support this, on the grounds of the extremely poor trustworthiness of others (to not act in their own self-interests).

Remember: It’s only progress if it helps the person with the terminal illness. And I use those words very deliberately.

Also, living and dying is a private matter. Why the **** should anyone ask for permission?

  3. Ok, do you support the Social Security Legislation Rewrite Bill, I ask, that is more pressing and important to me and others at present. Labour’s position has been a bit ambiguous and unconvincing on some points that are issues there. I am so far not that impressed by your work as MP.

  4. Good grief you can think of all tte urgent things that need doing in this country, and we get this on TDB from an MP. Poverty which means housing, enough food to live decently, decent jobs that pay the living wage…..

For goodness sake people have the right to take their own lives it is called suicide. Birth is not a neat tidy little bundle I can tell you, life is not a neat tidy bundle and nor is death.

No one should live with constant pain or extreme pain that is what palliative care is all about, that is what hospitals manage.

Getting doctors – who are quite clear they don’t want a bar of it, to assist people to die is murder isn’t it, how is it not murder.

Read what has happened in Belgium and the Netherlands,

we will never ever be any better at it than them, and they have knocked off lots of mental health patients amongst others. Are mental health patients able to make a ‘sane’ decision to have thier lives ended…. now they are on about teenagers making decisions for themselves about being knocked off.
