  2. good list martyn,

re abuse of power/nicky hager: i read somewhere, here?, that mr hager is researching a book on the police. perhaps there is more in this story later in the year.

privitisation: it would be great to hear, from the opposition, a resounding ‘NO’ to this insidious creeping of privatisation into important government roles.
btw i feel like spelling privatisation with a z as it is such an americanism.

noable omission perhaps: sweeping suppression orders and their stifling effect.
as we didn’t know what we weren’t allowed to know, most discussion that went near the subject was likely to be curtailed.

this is not a criticism of blog operators/moderators, more of a sign of the times, and a tie in of a few of your stories above: police ready to do the governments bidding (over zealously- te urewera, hager)plus weakening of a dissenting voice in media.

anyhow.. wishing y’all a connected new year.
thanx to all those keeping this dissenting voice going.

  3. When you see it all itemised like this, it really shows how insidious The John Key government is. It’s pretty frightening he remains so popular among our fellow countrymen.

  4. #12 – The nasty NatZ have demonstrated their hate for the other regions, as they have turned their backs on the provinces and only spend big in the Auckland region, obviously just to curry votes for the big region for the upcoming election.

    Example;

Just go to HB/Gisborne to see the social/economic depression & carnage that Key has created,by taking the Kiwirail maintenance funding & directing it to Auckland rail in 2011, that caused the flooding slips in March 2012, from blocked floodwater culverts/drains closing the rail and Government never offered funding to fix the increasing rail use just doubled in that year.

Insidiously now he wants our only safe land transport alterative, the rail link to Gisborne to be used by his Government as not as a freight/passenger line but for another of his fanciful ideas instead.

So first his Government policies destroyed the rail line, and now he is hell bent to see it used for his cycleway/golf cart regimes!!!!!!!!!

BBRRRRRR, the evil monster so just wait for the election Keyster & watch your NatZ electorate seats there disappear because of the anger you have created here.

You have given Victorious Labour returning MP Stuart Nash a help up to retain the Napier electorate for Napier and other local MP seats will then follow, as labour/NZ First/Greens electoral strategies will take them also back from National as a result of his criminal intent to wilfully wreck our safe alternative rail service, and cause a loss of our local industries to better opportunities they will seek elsewhere we are advised, in better served land transport regions like Auckland & Palmerston & Wellington areas.

  5. Poverty in general is being picked up by the public but there is an uneasy refusal to believe it is REAL poverty (whatever that is to your average Kiwi).

This is NZ, the same one these Baby Boomers grew up in where poverty didn’t exist like it does now and the government filled the cracks in. The trouble is they benefitted from previous governments policies and by virtue of that even more so from this National government. But now that others aren’t from the same National government is too damn hard to think about.

And yet it obviously troubling some, so they make themselves feel better by comparing poverty in NZ with poverty in India or Africa and somehow satisfy themselves that it’s all a lefty negative beat up.

The thing is the amount of beggars and homeless people is becoming hard to miss and so their current rationale is increasingly delusional. Therefore I expect this uncomfortable problem will continue to eat away at least some of those not affected by Nationals policies. Watch this space!

  6. One more thing not to report or comment on is NZ’s ballooning debt.
Or is it simply axiomatic that National debt is good, Labour debt is bad?

    1. According to the Heralds Political Editor Audrey Young, their inability to balance the books is nothing to be concerned about and in her glowing end of year report on the Key government, teency weency little things like debt and balooning debt at that were not mentioned.
