Being a beneficiary doesn’t mean I don’t still have dreams and a goal of eventually being able to support myself again. I’m never thrilled at the prospect of needing to book an appointment at my local WINZ office. In fact the only time I ever feel like a second rate citizen in my own country is when I’m forced to leave my dignity at the door of WINZ, and join the queue to plead my case for whatever meagre assistance I may be entitled to. Today was one of those days.
Under its broadcasting standards Radio NZ is supposed to reflect both sides of the argument. It has totally failed to do this and has only reported one side of the argument providing the false impression that it is business-as-usual when it comes to the Antarctic. We are told that calving happens all the time, that this is “normal” – an in this regard I could hardly believe my ears when the Arctic was mentioned. This was not verging on but has crossed the line into climate change denial propaganda.
In the past week, the options have narrowed for Labour.
The Greens, through motormouth Metiria Turei, have ruled themselves out of the next Government. Labour’s tax proposals, while progressive, are too easily dismissed as complicated and paternalistic. The polls, while probably underestimating the left as usual, give no comfort.
…would you really trust a person with this level of compassion to legalese euthanasia?
The Greens look divisive, they look like they don’t want to actually change the Government and they will look like hypocrites if they do in fact sit down to work with ‘racists’.
