Superman was ALWAYS Superwoke and we should celebrate that
MAGA’s tantrum over “woke” Superman is nastier than their usual whining
At this point, the right-wing grift is predictable to the point of tedium. Every time there’s a pop cultural phenomenon — a blockbuster movie, a chart-topping single, a hot new fashion trend — conservative media and MAGA influencers rush to denounce it as anti-American, anti-family or even demonic. Labubu dolls are Satanic. The “Barbie” movie is anti-male. Conservative menare being traumatized by rap songs informing them that women can experience sexual arousal. (Not that said conservative men are willing to believe it.)
The reasons right-wing pundits engage in this are transparent. The biggest is simple attention economics. Glomming onto popular topics is a good way to attract new audiences, especially those who may not be that political, and lure them into engaging with reactionary content. It also helps feed the paranoia that fuels the right, by propping up the narrative that all of pop culture is out to destroy them and their way of life. The ultimate goal is to persuade people to reject movies, music, TV and other cultural artifacts as “woke” or “Satanic,” and turn exclusively to MAGA influencers for their entertainment needs. Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire even has a movie studio where they turn out subpar content that only has an audience because they’ve convinced right-wingers to eschew quality films as too “liberal.”

Anyone trying to do anything for the benefit of other people is ‘woke’. Aka a humanitarian, or a kind and unselfish person. Woke is a stupid word. I’d rather say someone is thoughtful and generous with everyone and tries not to cause unnecessary offence when another has done nothing to offend them. Well-mannered, tolerant, believing the best of people until they know different, patient, helpful and willing to share.
Kindness to animals and the world we live in. Being aware of what damages animals and the earth must be ‘woke’. I thought it was just sensible really. Why kill the goose that lays the golden egg. Why ruin our only home. Even billionaires will face the consequences of greed one day.
We don’t wish harm on Americans but having had our noses rubbed in it since forever, that they are the only exceptional people in the world and we’re all somehow lacking, is galling. I have to admit I’m quietly enjoying watching the slow realisation that their country is just as flawed and has just as many problems and idiots as any other country. Also, that other countries are not interested in celebrating 4th. July. Means nothing to the rest of us.
They can wave all the flags they like, that doesn’t make them any better than anyone else.
Trump used to always stand in front of dozens of flags to show what a patriot he was. Seems to have had second thoughts on that lately.
They have been taught to disdain others from an early age and are now reaping what they’ve sown. There’s not much sympathy for the mess they have got themselves into.
By the same token, it’s a warning to us. We have the makings of a nasty little fascist govt. here too. It’s being promoted as the one with all the best ideas. Whereas, in fact, it’s the one that espouses cruelty and punishment unless we behave ourselves.
And even then, the best we could hope for is to live unmolested. Not necessarily well.
