Conspiracy theorist Liz Gunn reportedly arrested after melee at Auckland Airport
Former TV host and conspiracy theorist Liz Gunn has reportedly been arrested at Auckland Airport after a melee on Saturday night.
Gunn and a cameraman had reportedly been attempting to film the arrival of a family who had been kept in lockdown in Tokelau after refusing the COVID-19 vaccine, according to Counterspin Media Facebook posts.
Police said they were called to the Auckland International Airport at 7:15pm after a report of an assault.
Police did not name the pair, but confirmed the arrests of a 49-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman.

I don’t know ANYTHING about this case, but here is my stab in the dark hot take.
Dear old Liz has rocked up to the Airport to interview some grief stricken family she is parasitically attaching to and emotionally manipulating off and Auckland Airport Security have decided to be staunch dicks and because she wouldn’t have bothered to get permission to film they have gotten all heavy and over the top and she will be screaming she is a journalist.
The up shoot will be dropping the charges because both sides have been dicks but it gives her the chance to sell her ‘investigative journalism’ shtick.
Why are we so hell bent on building these circus freaks into martyrs for the cause?
Unless she was actually harassing someone, Auckland Airport Security should have been far more chill than this, instead they’ve over reacted to her over reacting and it’s all become an embarrassing melee for all involved AS WELL as building her standing amongst the feral antivaxx Qanon fraternity.
I’m old enough to remember Liz Gunn and there was no doubt that in her day she was the mustard. Intelligent, insightful and ruthless, she was the perfect team with Mike Hosking, like an extra pair of jaws for a pack of piranhas.
That she has fallen so deep and so far into the AntiVaxx Rabbit hole is a cautionary tale to us all not to base our understanding of the world from your Facebook feed.

Talking of batshit crazy, currently the feral antivax Qanon freedom voices glee club are claiming on their social media echo bunkers that the Labour Government are secretly covering up 1400 deaths and storing the bodies at a secret morgue.
Why the Christ we would hide 1400 dead is never explained, but most perplexing is the how, there is just no way in New Zealand any organisation could hide 1400 bodies without 1400 angry families demanding to know where their whanau are.
The idea that the State are secretly hiding casualties from Cyclone Gabrielle is so disconnected from any understanding of process it’s flat earth, fake moon landing level conspiracy stuff and yet there is a willing audience who are so twisted with animosity towards Jacinda that anything that reeks of Deep State crimes against humanity are immediately leapt upon with all the passion of a drug addict finding a baggie down the couch.
It’s almost a mental illness now that provokes a violent explosion of untempered rage.
We have been so much more damaged psychologically as a people from the Covid response and the anxiety generated by losing the certainty modernity flawlessly creates.
This has demanded answers from our lived experience too deep for our shallow existence.
The only guarantee is there will be far more trauma before we find the answer.

Very thoughtful and well put Martyn. The problem of so many questions that change slightly before we even get half answers to the originals, and then the horizon changes with additional clouds of technology, and climate change, and social struggle leading to not being able to trust and believe. One thing remains as good advice, look skeptically at someone who professes to know all about something, anything. Listen politely and if important to you, seek a second opinion from someone different who is thoughtful and has a history of doing things well in some area of life, just to sound it out.

You are correct in saying a rock was turned over but what came out was a slim ball called Liz Gunn. There are more rocks that would be great if left untouched .They have the simple minds of all anti vaxxers lead by the likes of Tamaki. The one good aspect of the covid was it lead to the ma mandates which exposed the underbelly of the unsociable group working in the social,sector such as teachers midwives and teachers . I take 20 tablets a day due to a medical event in my life .On occasion these have caused problems but I do not stop taking them . As a vast number of sane NZ citizens had 3 jabs we are looking something like 10 million plus jabs .The 65000 noted events seem slight especially as some of the noted problems are relatively minor . Some were major but the alternative with no jab would have been far worse . Those like you (I am assuming you did not get jabbed ) benefited by the sacrifice of others who were more socially aware .

in reality is the result of this century’s adoption of electronic social media. This has been THE game changer that allows meme-think and meme-thinkers to rampage and distort rational discourse.
Many amongst us are ill-equipped to deal with targeted lies and messaging. It would help if greater emphasis were to be directed by our educational systems to equip future generations with the skills such as source verification and to think rationally and sceptically.
Agreed, I’ve watched a few documentaries on how conspiracy theories start, evolve and infect. All the researchers said pretty much what you said.
Interesting also, was the idea that many people start believing conspiracy theories to control the narrative of what to believe. For example MSNBC says one thing, and Fox says the complete opposite, you can disbelieve both sources and listen to what Q has to say instead.
