  1. Apparently United could have used another airline to move its people south to crew their flight. They have some sort of reciprocal agreement for in-country flights.

United has a track record for this sort of thing. Just a few weeks ago they were kicking youngsters off plane for wearing leggings without some sort of additional ‘modesty cover’.

Which is far more polite than the ad spoof that sprang to sweary life so soon after the event.

What riled me about the coverage was the way the passenger’s ‘criminal’ past was aired for all the world to see. This was not some sort of ‘citizen’s arrest’. The man has been cleared and has resumed his business. Why did we need to know about it?

  2. There is a growing movement in the tech sector to replace The Stacks, as Bruce Sterling calls that oligopoly of global corporations that dominate the sector (esp. Microsoft, Apple, Google, FarceBook, Amazon), with “platform cooperatives”, organisations which are owned and democratically run by their workers, their customers, or both. Perhaps, in order to avoid the kind of casual violence inflicted on Dr Dao, the transport sector also needs to have its Stacks (eg United Airlines) replaced with platform cooperatives?
