MP Yang lobbied ministers to overturn Security Intelligence Service block
Embattled MP Jian Yang lobbied ministers in a bid to overturn a national security block on a Chinese-born job applicant taking up a sensitive position in the defence force.Months after first taking a seat in Parliament following the 2011 election, Yang took up the case of an aggrieved applicant for a New Zealand Defence Force job who had failed background checks conducted by the Security Intelligence Service.
Yang told the Herald he was merely acting on behalf of a constituent and had done nothing wrong. “I had simply sought answers on the constituents behalf through the appropriate channels, as is the responsibility of every Member of Parliament,” he said.
A February 2012 letter obtained under the Official Information Act written by then-Defence Minister Jonathan Coleman to the applicant, copied in Yang “who has approached my office on your behalf,” and noted Labour Minister Kate Wilkinson had also been lobbied.
So the Chinese spy inside the National Party tried to get another spy inside our military and still National voters see nothing wrong here?
If only the NZ media put as much focus on China having a spy inside the National Party as they did when Metiria admitted having to stealing from Welfare to feed her kid huh?
This story on the NZ Herald has within a couple of hours gone from being the lead to a barely seen mention on their front page now.
The best of the world are bemused, puzzled and quite frankly laughing at us about how laid back and casual we are all being over a Chinese spy inside a Party that used to be the Government!
I’ve just been informed that I didn’t get a job that I had applied for.
According to this I should now go to my MP and have them advocate for me to get the job.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s not how it works and certainly not what the MPs and ministers would think is their job.
The more we hear of this guy the more actually does sound like a Chinese plant.

This Chinese spy resembles “Sargent Shultz” doesn’t he, does so endering I have to say, at least Shultz was a likeable character.

“China is using fake LinkedIn profiles to gather information on German officials and politicians, the German intelligence agency (BfV) has said.
The agency alleges that Chinese intelligence used the networking site to target at least 10,000 Germans, possibly to recruit them as informants.
It released a number of fake profiles allegedly used for this purpose.
BfV head Hans-Georg Maassen said the accounts show China’s efforts to subvert top-level German politics.
“This is a broad-based attempt to infiltrate in particular parliaments, ministries and government agencies,” he said.”
So why should New Zealand be any different, and the main focus of Chinese interest is access to the Five Eyes Spy network, which Kim Dotcom commented on also, in the great documentary shown on TVNZ last night.
As Five Eyes member, New Zealand is of particular interest to China, possibly also Russia.
The economic interests are only secondary.
Why wasn’t Yang prepared to decline his “constituent’s” request, if that same “constituent” had already failed an SIS background check? Yet Yang despite that fact, was prepared to continue lobbying for the “constituent” applying for a job with the NZDF! That point is a bit suspect on its own. This from someone with a dubious past!
In my opinion, Yang must be made to step down from his position as an MP, pending further investigations into his previous activities relating to his employment in China, as well as his intended purpose for being in NZ.
I’m sure Matt Nippert will continue to pursue this issue and no doubt Winston Peters will do the same. This is serious and is looking more and more like a threat to NZ’s sovereignty, with each move Yang makes!
It’s proven that he lied on his residency and citizenship applications which is grounds for removal of citizenship and deportation from NZ back to China. And that should be done else we’re just allowing China to walk all over us.
