SHOCK NEW TAXPAYERS’ UNION POLL: Labour + Greens + MP are Government

Māori Party – 4.4

Latest Taxpayers’ Union Poll is out and for the first time since March 2022, the Poll is predicting a Labour + Greens + Māori Party Government.

I’ve argued in todays Waatea News Column that one of the most significant political outcomes from Waitangi 2025 was the new relationship between Labour and the Māori Party.

All last year senior activists from each side butted heads behind the scenes in a pointless game of oneupmanship.

That push and shove seems to have ended at Waitangi.

The reality of this Government’s anti-Māori and anti-Treaty agenda alongside its anti-worker, anti-renter, anti-environment and anti-beneficiary policy stances makes this Government a real candidate for a 1 term flop.

That reality is forcing strategic changes.

I think the Māori Party are looking at how they support a Labour led Government and what they actually want out of that relationship.

I think this could lead to an agreed platform of policies explaining the material difference voters can expect from a Labour, Green + Māori Party Government.

Polls like this will hasten that work.

  1. The poll shows that continuous election is the only route to a popular democracy with accountable representatives and stable government.
    If the present colonialist government was in any way accountable to the people it would not have pursued any of the policies which have sparked public outrage.
    We do not need a change of government. We are well past that point. We need a fundamental and radical change in the system of governance.
    The open ballot, continuous election and self-determined constituencies. In short, rangatiratanga.

  2. Labour’s chance of being voted into power will be enhanced if it seems able to form a government with the Greens alone. Te Paati Māori leaders have tended to make statements that the broad electorate find disconcerting, to put it mildly.

  3. It isn’t a surprise. When the Taxpayers’ Union is saying Simon Watts ZB interview was a train wreck and farmers are saying at least Shaw knew his portfolio, it’s looking bad. Where’s bald Jacinda?

  4. No rush to spout new half baked policy just to please a few moaners .Take the next 12 months then get stuck in next year .The COC will be paralised by then so it will be easy meat .

  5. Could the TPM work in with any Party that did not support their racial superior view of the Maori in this country.

    1. They have before Trevor. Sided with the tightly righties after being bribed by John Key with the baubles of office.
      However I think you might find the current TPM are far better educated and aware than those that preceded them. They are also more interested in advocating for their own rather than being Uncle Tom’s like Potaka Reti Peters and Jones.
      So I believe they will work with other parties if they are taken seriously and allocated portfolios where they can make serious progress in advancing the welfare of their voters not just the donors as Act, National and NZF are doing.

  6. So this “mandate” that National supposedly has to sell NZ assets is just a mirage? Seems they can’t even sell policy to their own support base, and the rest of NZ certainly isn’t buying it.

  7. On the left I have National/ACT/NZ First, on the right I have Labour/Green/NZ First, and in the centre there’s Mational/Green/NZFirst.

    What’s a man to do?
