New poll: Most voters think parents should provide school lunches
The majority of voters believe parents are most responsible for providing school lunches, according to the first RNZ-Reid Research poll.
The results, gathered between 21 and 27 March, come after a string of problems bedevilling the scheme – including late delivery, unappealing food, and even an exploding meal.
The government’s revamp of the school lunch programme has received a lot of attention this term and featured as a topical question in this week’s poll.
I think this Poll is incredibly unhelpful!
OF COURSE Parents should have the most responsibility in providing their kids with food!

They are your responsibility, you have to provide, but the way we want it and the way it is ain’t the same thing are they?
OF COURSE Parents should be responsible for feeding their kids, but for many of our friends, whanau and neighbours, that just ain’t the way it is!
Because we believe the Parents should be responsible doesn’t equate to not feeding children via school lunches!
The result doesn’t justify not feeding kids and it sure as Christ doesn’t justify the corporate slop David Seymour has corroded it into.
This is a land of milk and honey that apparently feeds 50 million, why can’t we ensure our children are all feed nutritional and healthy kai that enables jobs in the local community because hungry kids can’t learn.
The mean spiritedness that believes making kids starve to punish their parents is so fucking petty.
David’s corporate slop is not nutritious…

The list of concerns about David Seymour’s beleaguered school lunch problem grew longer this week with the release of research showing the lunches provide students with just half the energy they require from a midday meal.

Over half a million Kiwis accessing food banks per month – survey
More than half a million Kiwis are accessing food banks each month to get by – the highest number on record.
However, the donated supplies needed to feed them is not growing at the same pace.
A recent survey from the New Zealand Food Network, a not-for-profit organisation which distributes food to food banks across the country, revealed that food hubs were providing support to more than 500,000 individuals a month between July and December 2024.
This was up from the previous number of 454,000 individuals between January and June 2024.

thats a lie we cant provide 40 million meals a day .We might be able to provide 40 million per year of Seymours pig food .1 meal does not feed a person for a year does it so at 3 meals a day we can feed 13 million a year .But we cant feed 120 ooo of our own 1 meal a day thats fucken disgusting .

I’m not sure people realize Govts only do things for a reason -feed kids in schools, less hungry kids, poverty levels look better. Also schools very happy with the results so more govt ups. This is why National/ACT/NZ First couldn’t just straight out scrap it. Then again, I’m not sure people think at all nowadays.

The result of the poll shows how the ordinary voter has no conception of what society is about and what organisation is needed and that all citizens have requirements that are able to be met and help given in various ways when the nation is run right. I think democracy is under-performing and most people go around in a haze of misconceptions and do nice things to help in some way, and feel that is all that is required of them. When asked their opinion they glow with self-satisfaction because they are so important – that is what neoliberalism wants them to believe. They will never admit how little they understand and know, because they don’t know how small it really is.
It shows the disconnection in our society that so many people are prepared to gleefully punish children for having irresponsible parents.
‘Children are our future’, may be cliched now but it does remain true. Do we want our future workers and carers as well educated, skilled, healthy individuals? Or do we want an underfed, embittered criminal underclass that remains a reservoir of ill health and crime?
Ancients like myself have seen our population rise from two and half million to the over five million it is now while services and support shrank through privatisation and neglect.
Much has changed since I daily went to school with a packed lunch in my bag but even then there were the kids that scrounged and stole food (talk to John Banks sometime).

Irresponsible parents – I hate that term. They exist but not as widespread as considered and many are doing heroically in difficult circumstances. I feel as strongly about applying it in everyday language as Marama Davidson and the Greens hate the word ‘cunt’. FGS don’t throw out terms that the prosy, puritanical, narrow people out there can seize on as an excuse for some meanness.

How about asking who is responsible for ensuring NZer have access to decent housing, a good education and a stable and well-paid job.
Yes thats the crux of the problem .Governments are elected to SERVE THE PEOPLE not make profits from creating poverty .Governments dont need to make huge profits like a bank they just need to provide for the citizens of NZ .They need to focus on health ,education,housing and employment before they build another fucken road to some holiday location such as marsden cove or russel in the north .

3 grand kids at local school today .1 at primary had lunch provided by local supplier ,Chicken kebab,fri bread ,fruit .College had stale pizza scroll provided by seymoure and his pommy mates .
