  1. English has always been a smug parochial little prat, but I will not forgive his constant disparaging of young NZ men when they already lead the world in topping themselves. To then argue against this same group having the opportunity to better themselves and contribute positively and more constructively to society is perverse, mean, and singularly unpleasant. God only knows how he ticks, but he needs to explain why, exactly why, he persists in taking such a counter-productive stance, and what outcomes he expects from ratting on the future when the future is so much more important for today’s young people than it was in his day, which has passed.

  2. Good letter Frank 100%,

    Quote from Bill English;
    “ The free first year of tertiary education that’s free was explained to us as, um, y’know being paid for by getting rid of what was the tax cuts that were on the books”

    Bullshit English says he is receiving money from the one year free education in ‘his household’ – so he says it is badly targeted?????

    He wanted a tax cut instead or will he accept both now????

    Well i am astounded at his stupidity.

    His household gets a year free education and now wants his tax cut.

    There is no pleasing these greedy National Party grubby lot is there.

    Give the free education to some one who really needs it Bill.

    You know very well how to rort the system now, so educating you further won’t help us all.

    Quote from English;
    “Well, in my case they’ve handed my household now six thousand dollars a year!

    first year of free education. So it’s a very expensive, very poorly targeted policy”

    Maybe Bill we should send you back to school because either way you get free money thrown at you!!!!!!

    And now he wants both free education and a tax cut now also?

    1. Thanks, CG. Actually, I should’ve asked a seventh question: Will Bill English make any voluntary payments toward the (near-)free tertiary education he received?

      Damn.

  3. So, Clark had a fees-free education as did many of our representatives in Parliament. She never brought in free education either. This was simply a desperate bribe by Labour for votes, as were their ridiculous promise on planting a billion trees and building thousands of new homes. Now they are backtracking on what were impossible to achieve promises. Bribery for votes, pure and simple. So desperate, no wonder Winston got the PM role.

    1. Clark did not bring in fees-free education, Miles. But her government implemented zero-interest for students whilst they were studying. The Clark-led government laid the ground for following progressive administrations to go further.

      The dismantling of the market-driven society we’ve inherited may be a long, slow process. But we’ll get there eventually.

      Neo-liberalism has had it’s day.

    2. MILES,

      If you haven’t noticed yet;

      “Clark” – is not the leader of a political party like Bullshit “Bill English” is.

      Remember that “Jacinda Ardern” is the leader of another Party also.

      Best you know this before you start claiming that “Clark is “Clark Kent” alias Superman.

    3. It’s not bribery when it’s what’s actually needed.

      It is when it’s not what’s needed and it mostly goes to the rich like, say, National’s tax cuts.

  4. HI frank, please don’t hold your breath whilst awaiting an answer, I fear it would be a fatal decision.

  5. Capitalism has not failed, if it had, New Zealand would not be one of the top in the OECD (or was, this is slipping already, under our new gummit).
    It was just a bs line trailed out by Winstone who had to say something when he chose Labour and therefore denied the majority of voters what they wanted. The only silver lining of this election is that we now now that the COL agreements and negs were a collective sham, we will have WP as PM for a great length of time soon, (actually he is a better choice than anyone else in the Labour caucus), and that Peters will never be any sort of maker again. So much for openness and transparency in govt, Jacinda!

    1. Capitalism has not failed, if it had, New Zealand would not be one of the top in the OECD (or was, this is slipping already, under our new gummit).

      Miles, with that one comment you’ve undermined and demolished your own credibility. The new coalition government has barely been in office since 19 October. Three months is insufficient time for the OECD to assess any aspect of this government’s performance.

      So your claim that New Zealand “is slipping already, under our new gummit” is a fabrication on your part.

      1. Besides which, Miles, you misquoted me. I didn’t say capitalism has failed. In my January 20, 2018, 8:42pm post, I said;

        Neo-liberalism has had it’s day.

        There is a difference.

    2. Capitalism has failed and has always failed. It’s why it always needs socialism to rescue it. The New Deal after the Great Depression and then Socialism for the Rich in the form of Quantitative Easing after the GFC.

      BTW, It was the National government that had us slipping in all rankings in the world. That started not long after they got in power and was always attributable to their policies.

      Like National Standards have now been proved to have worsened our education.

  6. I won’t be holding breath that English responds. The most you can hope for, frank is that someone in the mms picks up on this (RNZ?) and asks a few awkward questions of the Dipton Double Dipper.

  7. Young person I met: “I’m not going to repay my student debt. Why should I? The older generation got their free!”

    Me to young person: “you go girl! Pay for yours when Key and English cough up the bucks to pay for theirs!”
