Foreign Minister Winston Peters has called out US Senator Ted Cruz for sharing “fake news” about New Zealand’s visitor visas for Israelis.
Cruz had posted to social media saying, “It’s difficult to treat New Zealand as a normal ally within the American alliance system, when they denigrate and punish Israeli citizens for defending themselves and their country from Iranian-controlled terrorists.”
The message was referring to reporting this week about accusations Israelis had been denied visitor visas over their military service.
When Winston is not starting diplomatic incidents with the Mexican Embassy, he’s freaking out over a Ted Cruz mean tweet.
Smell the glory of the panic, I like watching Winston freak out.
Winnie knows American love 3 things – God, Israel and Guns and any hint that NZ is vetting IDF members for war crimes they may have committed during the genocide in Gaza is going to prompt some inane response from the orange fascist which is funny because if Trump is going to freak out about this, wait until he finds out he cant send nuclear ships here.

Immigration NZ HAS started vetting IDF war criminals from entering New Zealand, how do we know this?

Since the conflict between Israel and Hamas started, INZ has put in place processes to ensure consistency and priority allocation for any applications received for people living in these locations. Palestinian and Israeli nationals can apply for any visa category they meet the requirements for. We will continue to prioritise the processing of applications for people impacted by the conflict.
…right, so nothing has changed recently, but they did make the changes at the start of the conflict, so they are attempting to weed out war criminals from holidaying in NZ.
This is good, but it’s not good enough!
We have had our work visa abused by Israel. It is being used to allow IDF members who may have been involved in war crimes to relax and chill out here.
That flies in the face of every value we have as a liberal progressive democracy.
New Zealand should not be a rest and recreation holiday destination for war criminals!
The move to hunt down war criminals visiting New Zealand is righteous and Immigration NZ are now being forced to do the same by requesting the specific times of an Israeli’s military service, if they are heading here after committing war crimes in the current genocide, they shouldn’t be allowed in and clearly that’s what Immigration NZ are now doing…
In the second questionnaire, they were asked:

Those who can’t disclose details of their military service due to security concerns are not exempt from filling out the questionnaire; as a result, they are unable to complete it and obtain a visa.

At least one soldier who served in Gaza during the ongoing war against Hamas has been denied entry to New Zealand. He said that this was a direct result of his answers to the questionnaire, while noting that he said he had not been involved in war crimes in Gaza.
Australia has been operating a similar policy, and at least two Israelis have been denied entry as a result.
New Zealand’s Immigration Authority (INZ), reached for comment, did not deny the details of this report, but said that serving in the current war did not automatically disqualify Israelis from entering the country.

5 of them were in Chch at the time of the Feb 22nd earthquake, 1 was killed by falling debris and the other 4 fled within hours. when their van was searched 5 stolen NZ passports were found by the police in their damaged van.
Immigration shouldn’t be making up their own rules based on preference. Winston is also right that we should welcome Israeli people here just like anyone else. I would also be more interested in a post/discussion about lowering the voting age to 16 than this. My initial feeling is I’d be against it, but let’s hear your ideas, never know what we might find.
Ofr course we should welcome Israeli people here just like anyone else, to see how a country works with equal rights for all … unless:
1. they have, during a stint with Israeli armed forces, committed acts of war against civilians in Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, in Israel, Lebanon, or anywhere else, or
2. they are settlers in the West Bank that Israel illegally occupies.

Despite stuff claiming it is incorrect, Immigration NZ have been asking Israelis to disclose their military service, we know this because they told us so, in a press release
…..according to a press release from the New Zealand Immigration Authority (INZ), Israelis will be required to complete an “additional information form” which includes two sections for those who have undertaken military service in their home country.
In the first section, applicants must disclose the dates and locations of their service, as well as their unit, rank and role.
In the application’s second section, applicants are asked if they had active roles in “armed conflict,” including whether they have ever “been in any group or organization that has used or promoted violence to further their aims,” “committed or been involved in war crimes, crimes against humanity and/or human rights abuses….
