National trip Labour and Greens up on cannabis reform (predictable)
Hey bro, just chill.
It was always going to happen.
Because the Greens and Labour have such a weak position on cannabis reform (Labour will ‘do something’ about medicinal cannabis and the Greens will hold a talkfast) the issue was always ripe for National to do what National always does, steal the idea right from out of the Opposition’s feet.
News that National are considering to allow Drs to sign off on medicinal cannabis is a joke that goes no where in realty, but it allows National to pretend it does because what Labour and the Greens are proposing is so vacant and empty.
The reality is that medicinal cannabis as offered by large Pharmaceutical Corporations is actually pointless because the raw product is far better for you than the synthetic expensive stuff the Corporations are peddling.
All National are doing here is allowing those large Pharmaceutical Corporations to make even more money by selling a product that is inferior to what you can just grow, but because what Labour and the Greens were offering is so meaningless National’s decision looks like a huge step.
National will push this through, Labor and the Greens are too weak to offer up alternatives and the large Pharmaceutical Corporations will make a killing while thousands will continue to be sent to prison for possession.
It’s like we will get the worst elements of prohibition and then some. This move will actually make things worse than they currently are.

I think Martyn the Government said the cannabis would be provided on prescription from Specialists, not Doctors. How is that going to help people when they will have to cough up $145.00 at the least per visit. So many people cannot afford a Doctor’s visit let alone the excessive fees Specialists charge. The script fee is enough for some people at $23-25 to get a script renewed.
Its a rort, people should just cultivate the plant/plants in their own gardens and just use it as and when they need it. Once you have seed you have it forever and can replant it over and over. The internet is a wonderful tool and you can teach yourself how to re-plant year after year. I don’t use the stuff but I am a keen gardener and have seen plants growing and know its not difficult to cultivate.
It will be pain relief for the rich and buggar all for the poor – life goes on as usual in little ol’ NZ.
Would add that they should encourage vaping, to avoid the lung health issues that come with smoking any substances.
The Greens and Labour need to get their act together on this one…as does NZF !
