    especially troy scum.

  2. Ravinder Parmar, how do you enjoy your wife being “used” as a plaything for the National party?

  3. National dirty politics beginning to rear its ugly head head!

Good for Michael Wood sticking to his personal principles, challenging the slur against his wife by Ravinder Parmer, the National candidate’s husband.

  4. Here’s an exercise for anyone who would relish seeing National utterly embarrassed in this by-election. Spend some time imaging you are the Troby-Crextor spindocters running the National campaigns, and thinking about how you might attempt to lure your opposition into scoring media own goals against the Labour candidate. Think carefully about all the divide and rule tactics you could use, and how you would get your opposition to fall for each one. Then, carefully diffuse all the landmines in your habits of political communication that would make you vulnerable to being used in this way.

Dirty Politics has roles that the opposition must play into for the dirty tricks to work. To avoid playing these roles, there’s a few things we all need to do. We need to do our own thinking, instead of letting social media attack mobs push us into taking sides in pre-prepared false binaries. We need to communicate more thoughtfully, with the aim of achieving mutual understanding, not petty point-scoring. Above all, we need to have respect for everyone involved in public debate as a fellow human being, *regardless* of how much we disagree with them about anything. Nobody changes their mind because of being insulted or labeled, and their genuine concerns trivialized.
