Meryl Streep and the horror of post truth politics – Trump DID mock a disabled journalist
It’s remarkable the power of post truth politics.
Meryl Streep’s powerful speech at the Golden Globes where she was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award hinged on an event during last years election that shocked many.
It was the mocking by Trump of Serge Kovaleski, a Pulitzer Award winning journalist who suffers from the very obvious disability of arthrogryposis that Streep highlighted as a moment she was disgusted by Trump and America’s dark flirtation with fascism.
But not the post-truthers.
According to the Alt Right, Trump never mocked Serge Kovaleski and it’s another beat up by the Hillary Clinton media.
What a load of bullshit.
First, let’s remember that Trump knew Kovaleski well. Trump had used Kovaleski’s report as ‘evidence’ that Muslims cheered when the planes hit the World Trade Centre and he had met and had been interviewed by Kovaleski numerous times between 1987 and 1993 when Kovaleski worked at the Daily News.
Trump had turned on Kovaleski during the election because Kovaleski had stated that the news report he had written and which Trump was trying to use to justify his claim that Muslims in New York celebrated the 9/11 attacks, didn’t in fact prove what Trump was trying to claim it proved.
Trump in turn then attacked Kovaleski and used the disability he knew Serge had to mock him, take a look for yourself…
…attacking Meryl Streep’s stirring speech by claiming Trump never mocked a disabled journalist when he clearly did is comparable to Orwell’s infamous 4 fingers test from 1984 where the tortured Winston claims freedom is to say 2 plus 2 = 4.
…in the far right post truth world of the Alt Right 2 plus 2 equals whatever Donald Trump says they equal.
Slippery: you say, “the fact this particular reporter had a (hidden)

If you are writing of the reporter Serge Kovaleski, it is very clear from the video clip that the man has something different from the usual with his hands and arms.
It is tempting to make some ‘slippery’ and snide ad hominen with you as the subject.
Unfortunately…
You have some not-so-funny trolls on the page TDB. Anyone who accepts the Trumpian version would have felt right at home in Nazi Germany.
As for the glamorous concept of being an actor…. Actors are often in preparation at about 5am, study, rehearse and appear before camera for far plus 8-10 hours, sometimes in horrendous conditions, then prepare for the next day, have meetings, or train…. All the while interacting with the necessity of their lives. Then they support charity and campaign for the good of the planet.

just because they are actors doesn’t make them experts on political issues!…and they are NOT Gods and they are NOT experts in everything …as some of them seem to think ( eg Clooney and De Niro)…u admit yourself they work hard and don’t have much time
and anyone who supported Hillary Clinton and had read widely on her background would have fitted into Nazi Germany!
…just look what she did to Libya and Gaddafi…and she supported the Iraq invasion…and the Syrian de-stabilisation and the getting rid of Assad…these actors supported that!!!!?…

Obama has a fine record of ‘bullying’ whistle blowers to the detriment of one and all. Not to mention all the people who could be whistle blowers but are now too terrified to step forward.
The USA has a long fine tradition of bullying numerous countries around the world, and Obama has uped the stakes with endless drone actions etc. and, well, where to start.
The Obama administration has allowed a system of State bullying, and disrespect his voters..through Welfare Agencies, the Medical Insurance Companies and the Prison/justice system to bully millions of Americans into a life of misery
The DNC bullied-disrespected Bernie and his supporters…and gave the election to Trump.
I’m sure that Meryl would have mentioned these had time allowed. Yup.

To be fair, he didn’t give the reporter special treatment. I think he was treating the reporter just like anyone else he chooses to mock ,imitating people is part of his rhetorical flow, the fact he doesn’t have an etiquette filter is no real news. He’s an equal opportunity insulter, anything will do.
The news is just that it took this to get Meryl off her seat, I guess.
