Of course the Government is strangling Māori media

Incoming 25% ‘funding cut’ for Māori media will be ‘catastrophic’ – even this National MP agrees
Parliament has been warned of an imminent “catastrophe” for the Māori media sector, with its funding agency claiming the Government is about to slash its budget by 25%.
Job losses are already hitting Māori broadcasters. The last remaining te reo Māori television news bulletin, Te Karere, has just faced a 64% funding cut. And Stuff has also been told that the majority of staff working at Radio Waatea, the largest Māori radio station, have been laid off.
But the dire state of Māori media is set to get even worse next year, according to the bosses of Te Māngai Pāho, which funds te reo Māori broadcasters and content creators.
The crucifixion of Māori Media is intentional.
This Government’s anti-Māori, anti-Treaty, anti-Worker, anti-Renter, anti-Beneficiary, anti-Disabled, anti-Environment agenda can only pass if the Fourth Estate doesn’t wake the sleepy hobbits of muddle Nu-Zilind.
The Government can rely on NZME to stick to the party line, they can rely in TVNZ being timid and RNZ/Stuff have too small a social media footprint to generate political backlash, but Māori media have been front and centre in challenging this Government’s terrible agenda.
THAT is the real reason they have been cut and the pathetic downgrading to a news hub run by the most timid Māori Network in NZ is to ensure Māori media is muzzled in the election year.
We should be disgusted but the blitzkrieg tactics of this Government have left many tired and exhausted so these types of naked abuses of power are barely remarked upon.
If you want to muzzle the Fourth Estate guard dogs, you euthanise the Māori ones first.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

Of course it’s intentional. Especially after Waatea’s sponsorship of The Bradbury Group – the CoC must hate that!
Also on the ‘asset sales’ list of CoC will likely be public radio. Winston has already threatened it and his dislike of National Radio. Luxon too, is not too keen on them and the ‘hard’ questions they ask; and Seymour is opposed to public broadcasting and any public funding of it.
And what’s going on with TVNZ? Luxon promised an annual interview with Jack Tame and is opting out of his commitment and Louise Upston won’t face up to Jack either.
Even the Concert Programme format is sounding more like UK’s Classic FM – a commercially-driven outlet.
Our publicly-owned electronic media could look very different in a year or two, to its detriment and possible demise.
Unless, unless, unless ….
Yes, NZ media are not only strangling Maori news but also the Left news. Again and again, our pathetic RW media are pretending they don’t notice – DER! The day of reckoning is coming and may be much sooner than you think. How is a PM ‘allowed’ to be so RACIST and EVIL? You dumb-assed RW voters – it’s all on you, but probably way too late for you to wake up and fix it! Where are your brains located?
RW media. Lol
I went to a school prize giving yesterday and the minister and he sick ACT side kick would have had a heart attack .TE REO is alive and well among the current generation of school kids .Maori are not going away any time soon and in fact are getting stronger by the day .
Yes, there’s a lot of active defiance going on in unexpected places.
We even got to watch some cricket from Kirikiriroa recently which was surprising, but most refreshing, from TVNZ.
yeah, if people were willing to subscribe to Māori media or to watch it with ads, then it would be fine because it wouldn’t be dependent on government funding decisions.
You know, proudly self-supporting and independent.
Like a charter school?
Don’t bother answering you genocidal Zionist stooge.
