OPINION: Having the C-word directed at me by a journalist in a mainstream publication wasn’t on my bingo-list for Mother’s Day 2025. Nor was being accused of “girl-math”.
But there you have it, that’s what was thrown at me and my female colleagues in a recent newspaper column as hopelessly devoid of facts as it was heavy on sexist slurs.

But no money for working women who were engaging with the process to enable their pay negotiations that were redressing historic sexism and continued neoliberalism of those workers rights!
Instead of actually having any sense of the damage she has caused, she’s suddenly the easily triggered Karen demanding to see the manager because she’s offended.

These right wing arseholes are causing enormous social carnage with their punitive cruel social policy that is hollowing out public services and ensuring their rich donor interests are implemented as economic policy, and Nicola is sad sad because some woman called her names?

The only reason National are suddenly talking banning under 16s from social media and crushing boy racer cars is a desperate attempt to change the topics from their war on working women, but the sheer number of workers involved in these Pay Parity claims was almost 500 000, so the anger will not dissipate even if they flood the media with these issues.

Thankyou for calling it what it is. Not savings to plug Nicola’s big budget hole, but theft of wages of hard working kiwi women to sate the greed of landlords, tobacco interests and fat cat political shrews who are guaranteed 10% pay rises for eternity.
The only positive out of all of this is that we know where women’s votes will go now and it’s not the right bloc.

Obviously Martyn is braver than me and actually read her article. I clicked on the stuff article as the headline was a bit ambiguous but the first couple of lines were enough to show that Willis wrote it so I didn’t bother reading any more. I don’t use bad words but you can be sure that I don’t expect any positive news from her.
Both Willis and Seymour are singing that the country is approaching its debt ceiling. Alas, the Nact must have borrowed too much, $4billion for landlords and the $1billion ferry build penalty clause, but it’s all ok, 150,000 women are stepping up to fund the bailout.

The problem with Vance article is that nobody in the NZ media is talking about pay equity – instead every headline and discussion is about the use of appropriate language. This was an own goal by Vance – she handed the government an out – on a silver platter.
