I don’t often cite Karl Marx but the gentleman wasn’t without insight. In a letter to his colleague Frederick Engles in 1863 he wrote about decades that passed without incident “… though these may again [be] succeeded by days into which 20 years are compressed.”
This is the genesis of the saying that nothing happens for decades and then decades happen in a week. This past week seems one of those.

While I always support opening a column with a Karl Marx quote and he makes some very funny snide remarks about NATO allies, watching Libertarians attempt the intellectual gymnastics to support Trump’s war mongering is fucking hilarious and I’m all here for it.
Damien’s esoteric cul-de-sac argument is how can we all have the moral high horse to support the Ukrainians and not help Trump out with the Strait of Hormuz.
Firstly, Damien – like all his right wing mates – are zionist apologists and that loyalty is so fanatical it is welded at the hip to anything and everything Trump does, (Jonathan Ayling’s attempt at this are wonders of the modern age) so the only reason there’s even an attempt at trying to compare the defence of the Ukraine with waging an illegal war on Iran is driven purely by protecting Israel.
We defend the Ukrainian BECAUSE Putin illegally invaded the Ukraine!
We are refusing point blank to support Trump, because Trump was conned by Netanyahu to engage in the most stupid military geopolitical blunder since Vietnam!
Netanyahu has been arguing Iran was moments away from a nuclear bomb since 1992!
No American Administration was stupid enough to start a war with Iran because every time their CIA geeks and Military goons war gamed out an attack on Iran it always ends in a lose, lose, lose quagmire.
Trump horrifically miscalculated that the Iranians were as easy to bully and bribe as the Venezuelans.
He was wrong!
The Venezuelans were q corrupt crony revolutionary mafia who could be bribed and bullied where as the Iranians are a Theocracy staffed by zealots who can’t be bullied or bribed, they can only be negotiated with.
Trump started this stupid military adventure with Israel and we are all collectively paying the price of that madness.
Watching the right scramble to justify Trump in any way they can is glorious.
Damien is right however about hugging your children before they are sent to war. The drum beat for conflict has been booming louder and louder and it will be National, ACT and NZFirst who will be the first to try and send our kids into the meat grinder of war.
