Christopher Luxon stands by scrapping $6b resilience fund created after Cyclone Gabrielle

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says he stands by the decision to dismantle a $6 billion national resilience fund set up by Labour after Cyclone Gabrielle.

Then-Finance Minister Grant Robertson set up the fund in 2023 to address vulnerabilities in NZ’s infrastructure to extreme weather, with a focus on transport, energy, and telecommunications infrastructure.

There is a real obscenity in the Prime Minister prancing around the disaster site of Mount Maunganui because the landslide that occurred there IS BECAUSE OF the very climate change that his Government has done EVERYTHING to undermine.
National’s war on the environment, and let’s be really clear, IT IS A WAR, they have repealed and undermined every single climate change policy we have.
Their despicable back down on water quality, on methane targets, on public transport subsides, on dumping the climate adaptation budgets, fast tracking big polluters projects – EVERYTHING this Government has done in the last 2 years has been burning environmental protections and when the ramifications of climate change erupt in the way we saw on Mt Maunganui, Luxon has the audacity to appear and pretend he cares, when all indications are this Hard Right Government DO NOT care about the environment!
This Government has bent over backwards for Dairy, mining, property speculators and the Trucking Industry, they have given a green light to big polluters and as the ramifications of climate change play out in real time, the PM pretends to suddenly care.
Not only has National waged war on Environmental protections, they have under funded the Civil Defence we need when these events occur!

According to Vote Prime Minister and Cabinet (which funds emergency management leadership and support):

  • $21.794 million decrease relating to funding transfers between financial years

  • $1.800 million decrease for Civil Defence Emergency Management training and administration

  • $1.285 million decrease for the Pacific Partnership Programme

  • $0.860 million decrease for establishment and expansion of the National Emergency Management Facility

That’s a *total of roughly $25.7 million less for these core items in 2025/26 than previously budgeted. According to the Climate Denying ZB, it is wrong to demand these questions off the PM

It’s a disgrace what you’re doing with your climate positive, Prime Minister. It’s an absolute disgrace and we’re suffering now.

You’re listening to a bunch of protesters heckling the Prime Minister. They’re yelling shame as he gets into his car. And yesterday, Chris Hipkins mentioned climate change in his message to victims’ families.

How easily manipulated are you muppets?

Climate change IS NOT a socialist hoax and the reality of our denial is upon us.
This only gets worse, and worse and worse. The massive rain falls followed by burning heat, last year was the hottest on record, each year that follows just gets hotter.
The Right Wing Climate Denial Hate Trolls scream ‘we are too small’ as if that justifies not rapidly adapting to the new realities.

  1. Luxon is getting more desperate and worse by the hour and yes, it is obscene! With his ‘it’s all about me’ performances – like a trained seal – he has taken over the whole shebang lot and has failed to consider whether the victims’ families wish to grieve privately. Is there no end to this clown’s ego or narcissism? He is also a glaring hypocrite, especially since he has so badly gutted our climate budget to the tune of $25.7m and about to dismantle the $6b national resilience fund est. by Labour in 2023! Clearly he is as stupid, insane and immoral as Trump and GASP the thicko’s are still voting for this RW CoC!!!! NZ has some very astute politicians but he and his ilk are definitely NOT in that same class. They continually support the very worst industries that will lead to the destruction of NZ. So all you dumb-assed RW ‘posters’ stop writing stupid, inane comments. Start to think rationally and not about yourselves, about the safety and future of OUR COUNTRY, then sprout something intelligent, just for a change!

A vote for Nact /NZF is a vote for more ECO carnage and loss of lives .Wake up ,we need more secure road and rail links into the north of Whangarei and the TAIRAWHITI .Never mind 4 lanes every where ,2 great lanes alongside a great rail line is what is needed .Also forget the national grid renewables on each home is the way to go so generation is localised and not reliant on the major generators who are profit motivated on the behalf of greedy share holders .
