No more aid for UN aid agency until Peters satisfied – Luxon
New Zealand will not make further payments to the UNRWA until the foreign minister is satisfied over accusations about its staff’s involvement in Hamas’ attacks, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says.
More than 10 donor countries suspended their funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), the UN’s largest agency operating in Gaza, over the weekend.
They included Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Japan and Austria.
Israel had provided the agency with information alleging a dozen staff were involved in the 7 October attack by Hamas fighters in southern Israel, which left about 1300 dead and about 250 taken as hostages.
More than 26,000 people – mostly women and children – have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched a major military operation in response, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
Heading into National’s caucus meeting this morning, New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon confirmed New Zealand would be halting further funding for the agency until Foreign Minister Winston Peters gave the go-ahead.
“Look, I mean the allegations are incredibly serious, it’s important they are properly understood and investigated, we won’t be making any further contributions until the Foreign Minister says it’s good to do so,” Luxon said.
“That’ll take as long as it takes.”
…for the last 24 hours, Israeli proxies have been selling the UNRWA as a taxpayer issue so as to deflect attention from the UN ruling against Israel’s ethnic cleansing war crime.
That attention by right wing noisemakers has spooked Luxon into dumping UNRWA aid which is exactly what the State of Israel wants.
It is a shocking development and further proof of the importance of The Platform and Taxpayers’ Union in being able to force knee jerks directly from National.
If this was actually a taxpayer issue, the IDF have killed 140 UNRWA staff since October 7th, which means we as Taxpayers should be demanding the IDF refund us for killing the staff members we were funding!
We send UNRWA a million dollars, they have 13 000 staff, so that’s $76.92 per staff member and the IDF have killed 140 of them, so from a purely taxpayers perspective, shouldn’t we be demanding IDF refund us $10, 769?
See how petty it is pretending that this is a taxpayer issue rather than an attempt by Israel to deflect from the UN ruling against their ethnic cleansing war crime?
Stopping the aid to that ethnic cleansing war crime makes us responsible for it now.
National has more blood on his hands.

The purpose of the high risk near suicide raid was to take hostages for exchanging with the thousands of Palestinians locked up and mistreated in Israel gulags.
