The latest TVNZ Poll fallows the Taxpayers’ Union Poll that showed a hung Parliament.
The TVNZ Poll is fascinating because it provides a shockwave to the Māori Party, ACT and Luxon’s leadership.
Māori Party:
The rise of NZF is a real threat to the Māori Party. It empowers the factions inside Labour who want a deal with Winston because they fear the extremism of the Māori Party will turn voters. If the Māori Party continue to look more interested in the drama than the mahi, it gives Chippy the reason to turn to Winston rather than the Māori Party. The option towards the Greens will be, ‘do you want a Labour/NZF Government or do you want to be the reason for another National, ACT and NZF Government.
ACT:
They will be genuinely pissed off that NZF has leapfrogged them. ACTs bigotry requires the facade of intellectualism to justify it, where as Winston can trade in ignorant bigotry which is far less sophisticated and is more popular. When you consider all the sub 5% anti-vax vote still swimming around trying to find a home, it explains why NZF is benefiting. NZF are the book burners, ACT explains why the books need to be burnt. Rednecks want to burn books, they don’t want an explanation on why those books should be burnt.
Luxon’s Leadership:
Luxon is in real danger now. Erica’s performance over NCEA has suddenly made her the Jacinda of National, the only thing saving his leadership right now is how NZF or ACT would respond to a leadership challenge and whether that might trigger an early election.

It is clear that many of the politicians’ thinking is still rooted in FPP thinking – winners and losers at all costs. Many journalists operate in the same territory. Thus we often do not get a clear picture of what is actually happening with the trend. For example the Margin of Error is constantly ignored in the discussion. If the Margin is +/- 3% then any shift within that range is not a meaningful shift as it could mean either an increase or a decrease in support for any one party. Pleas report this in future reports as the picture then becomes much more interesting.

So anyone who thinks our current government is crap is; “as dumb as a log?” Good to know. As it happens I think the CoCk ups are crap but we have to get past the political polarisation.
