  1. I accept more or less everything that is asserted as fact in this article, yet as someone who has paid some attention to Kashmir over the last couple of decade I am left in a state of somewhat queasy disbelief by its thrust. I can not understand why Rolinson does not have anything to say about the brutal nature of the Indian occupation of Kashmir and the injustice of denying self-determination to a people for whom a vast majority have been very clear about their desire to be independent of India for 70 years.
Why does Rolinson not consider the violence meted out by Indian security forces to be part of the equation in providing fertile soil for this act of political violence? And why does he end his piece with the kneejerk sloganeering of #StandWithIndia?
Fuck India. Fuck all countries (including ours) and, while you are at it, fuck Charlie Hebdo. Stand with the maimed. Stand with the bereaved. Stand with those who are terrified, whether of insurgent bombs or of regime-linked death squads. Don’t use certain acts of violence to excuse or cover other acts of violence. Don’t switch your brain off because someone has invented a new sentimentalised hashtag. Stand with humanity

  2. Very complex situation in the Kashmir, Pakistan vs India, Hindu vs Muslim, nah I don’t know what the answer is, similar complexities as Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria to name a few.
