  1. Yes,… it did seem quite unhinged in the blog that Ben submitted, a tad simplistic … as if there were aspects deliberately left out for effect.

Along with other party’s , I quite agree with many of the things NZ First stands for,… and unlike a few others on the ‘ Left ‘ ,… in general I support both Peters and Mark .

I also – again unlike a few on the Left – support people who have served time in uniform and have after leaving the services seen fit to move into politics. They can bring a valuable insight and balance that otherwise wouldn’t be there if they weren’t represented.

We need people from all walks to make a good , comprehensive govt.

And Ron Mark is part of that process.

    1. Has Ron Mark ever denounced war as a way of solving things. No he has not and I don’t care to think he has any decency until he does.

  2. Well said, Curwen.

The vague allegations were a mischief, Ron Mark has never tried to hide his time in Oman and doesn’t need to.

  3. True to form Curwen.

1-You alledge that I misrepresent Mark’s work by using the term “Mercenary”. The dictionary definition of mercenary is “a professional soldier hired to serve in a foreign army.” Seems to fit perfectly to me? (unless ron has some OMani roots that im unaware of?).

2- I never mentioned his UN service in the Sinai. Your trying to equate the two in a desperate attempt to wedge some principles into his time in Oman.

3- You completely ignore the Human Rights situation in Oman. Oman is a theocratic dictatorship. He was literally greasing the machine for a brutal regime. It is absolutely legitimate for us to question that, especially given that Mark puts this forward as something he is proud of as part of his millitary background.

4- While we are here; “This is a man… who could have quite happily stayed ensconced in Carterton winning election after election for the local Mayoralty…” You dramatically overblow Ron’s political longevity in Carterton. He only won one contested election there (his second election was unnopposed, served less than two terms).

5- “They see a Nationalist movement that is large and working well”. I see a nationalist movement that is led by a former National MP, who has been a member of neoliberal governments led by both major parties. Its second in command is Ron Mark, who is *literally* a mercenary who is proud of his work at the service of an Islamist dictatorship. Excuse me for not seeing this as an easy fit into a left coalition.

To give you your due- Curwen your faith in the grand old man and his party is astonishing, and ive gotta give you credit for the creative lengths youll go to to paint NZ First in a leftish light despite all availabel evidence.

    1. So all those kiwi expats serving in the following armed forces

      Irish,
      Canadian,
      Australian and
      Uk

      are they Mercenaries?

You might would to read up on the history of the Omani Armed Forces and why they hire ex commonwealth service personal and understand the Arab culture first. Before you start writing such rubbish.

Its no wonder the trade union movement NZ is the pits if they do basic research, and yes I come from a trade union family that live and breath the union movement, just google my great great grandfather Frank Henry Sherman in Canada. My dad is ex NZ Engineer Union official and I was card carrying AWU member.

  4. Whatever.

The critical thing is we still don’t know what we get if I vote nz first. Do we get a national government or a labour government. It’s like a crap shoot.anything else is a distraction.

  5. Ron Mark has always fought in Parliament for the Defence forces. The boots on the ground folk. Wanting the best gear we could afford for them for the places we send them – not whatever is being hocked off cheap by our ‘allies and friends’.

If we weren’t hampered by the muddle of political parties, and could pick the best for the job, Ron would be on my Dream team. He’s top value.
