  1. Amazing how main stream media has quickly swept the abuse under the carpet The fact we are the worst abusive colony in the world is clearly too much for them to accept .

    1. NZ is not alone in its evil history as the enquiries in Australia and Canada exposed similar abuse by state and religion. We should all be ashamed that it happened but proud of the fact it has been exposed by the brave people who spoke of their stories It would not have been easy to relive the horror.

  2. While I seldom agree with your opinions it is great that you can start a discussion and make readers think.
Any effort to disclose this terrible abuse is to be applauded. Many do not have a clue about what goes on in some people’s lives .
    Well done .

    1. You are right saying that we have no clue what goes on in other peoples lives .However we have many that think they know whats best for us all but have no clue what so ever .Because their lives are peaches and cream the majority of people are not in that position .

  3. Looking at the number of commentors on this the people of NZ are not enraged at all and share the PMs I DONT CARE MANTRA.
There should be 1000 people on here showing their rage but no they dont give a fuck

  4. One wonders whether, as well as private investigators being used by MSD and Crown Law (not a gang headquarters, but Crown Law, it must be emphasized) to dig dirt on victims of abuse, that maybe the NZ secret service was also involved? Why stop the depravity at mere private investigators? During the time period in question, the secret service was found out, in regard to illegally spying on 85 individuals, and having a role in the 2011 attack on Phil Goff, when it’s supposed to be politically neutral. And of all areas of the public service, the secret service should be the most politically neutral.
This all shows the need for more transparency and oversight, which seems to have flown out the window in the past, when it was needed. Since govt oversight of govt agencies plainly cannot be relied on, mechanisms such as the Ombudsman and OIA become ever more important. Both should be strengthened and better funded. The Ombudsman and OIA can and are, a check and balance on new technologies, such as big data, AI, and facial recognition.
If all keywords used to make searches on secret service systems and AI and facial recognition systems, were independently recorded and came under OIA, this would give transparency and oversight independent of govt agencies.
Because to use the favorite cliche, if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear, applies both ways. But certainly since the Public Service Commission seems to have maintained its existence with its head buried in the sand, then a proper supervisory body could be established, that can look into any abuse, in any situation, and the actions of the officials involved.
And in regards to the abuse in care redress compensation that is yet to be established, you don’t want to hear the govt start delaying and kicking the can down the road, with weak excuses about fiscal constraint – just reverse the $2.9 billion tax deductions given to property investors, and make it available for redress compensation – then it’s compensation resolved at long last.
