How dare a climate denial Government claim opposition have politicised weather events!

National’s claim that climate accountability is “politicising tragedy” collapses under even the lightest scrutiny. This Government dismantled climate resilience funding, cut civil defence budgets, subsidised fossil fuels, and weakened environmental protections — then turned up to Mount Maunganui pretending weather disasters exist in a vacuum. Voters are no longer buying it.
A climate denial government cries “politicisation”
Finance Minister Nicola Willis has accused Labour of engaging in the “wrong kind of politics” around the Mount Maunganui landslide.
In one of the first signs of political fallout from the event, Willis responded to questions about her Government’s decision to wind up the previous Government’s National Resilience Plan on Tuesday.
The plan, which ring-fenced $6 billion in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle, was established to fund medium- and long-term infrastructure resilience projects over 10 years, with a focus on transport, energy, and telecommunications.Nearly half was allocated, while the remaining $3.2 billion was returned to the Government’s coffers in Budget 2024.
Stuff
Election year panic sets in
National are shitting themselves.
To date, meek Labour have been pathetic and have never savaged National, that has changed with Election year.
At Labour’s conference, Chippy ripped into the wealthy interests that National served, last year Chippy attacked Luxon for personally benefiting from capital gains changes he made, this week they have attacked National for their war on the environment and the gutting of climate change budgets.
National are scared shitless of Labour being this honest!
Of course Kiwis should be furious that this Government have walked away from climate change and then have the audacity to tour Mt Manganui as an election prop pretending to care!
What this Government actually cut — and who paid the price
If they cared about climate change they wouldn’t have cut $25million from civil defence, wouldn’t have lowered water standards, wouldn’t have watered down methane standards, wouldn’t have rammed through fast track powers for polluters, wouldn’t have handed $200million in subsidies to the gas and oil industry, wouldn’t have bent over backwards for mining, wouldn’t have crashed public transport subsides!
How dare they then turn around and claim the Opposition have politicised this issue THIS CLIMATE DENIAL GOVERNMENT HAVE POLITICISED THIS!!!!
Blaming accountability instead of policy failure
Referring to the recent Mount Maunganui tragedy, Willis accused the Labour Party of engaging in bad-taste politics.
“For [Hipkins] to make that his claim to fame – a press release with a figure in it – and then to use politics on that in the days after a national tragedy, I think is the wrong kind of politics,” she said.
How dare we hold this Government to account for their climate denial!
Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour scolded those trying to “politicise” the latest severe weather events to hit Aotearoa.
“There’s been far too much misinformation, people trying to politicise from all angles. The actual facts need to be established so people can have trust,” he said.
He would not, however, say who exactly he thought had gone too far in “politicising” the emergencies.
“Look, I’m not going to further politicise it by pointing out who I think is politicising it, but I think it should be pretty clear that there are people who have, really, I think, tried to make this about blaming other people,” he said
FFS ACT have done all they can to spike climate change!!!
David Seymour is so desperate to avoid the realities of climate change, he would argue Palestinian protesters are politicising their protests against genocide!
Climate denial meets reality
The danger for the Right was always that climate change was going to get so bad that there was a point their denial was confronted by the realities and the public would wake up.
As another tropical storm brews, this year looks like the year when the Rights claim that climate change is a socialist hoax gets drowned by torrential rain.
The Right are panicking that you will see through their denial.
It’s nice to see them scared.

Luxon is now kissing the Maori backsides because he has seen the country needs them is these situations because they step up every time and look after all comers .The 1 million he is talking about is a bloody insult considering how often they have put their hands in their own pockets over the last 3 years .Hell one lot spent there own money putting a road through their own property with their own contracting gear so several farmers could get stock and families in and out as normal .The government and council put in nothing .
Is this the same Willis who constantly politically attacked the Labour govt on it’s covid response?
Thankfully she will exit politics when she and this coalition lose this year’s election.
Won’t happen.
I’ll put my 5 million in life savings on it, even against your pittance, you idiot.
I will go on saying it – Willis is an ‘Airhead’, and will go down in history as the most ineffective, out of touch FM NZ has ever had. She went into the role with zero experience, and has regularly shown she hasn’t got a clue! Now this CoC is under the hammer re their attitude and denial of climate changes but again have to blame the oppostion. They are incapable of accepting or apologising for their actions! Anyone today, who is still in climate denial, has to be either totally stupid or so far down the rabbit hole they can’t get out and that would apply to many of NZF voters. NZF is still advocating ‘mining’ FGS and Jones is not interested in NZ – again just himself and his money train. Now we have the bleating farmers because, shock – horror – climate conditions are affecting their incomes. Suck it up folk, time of reckoning has come and you are a large part of the problem many of you have failed to alleviate. You have been happy to simply chug along, increasing your bank balances and not giving a damn about NZ. Wakey wakey…….you are accountable – step up!
The government has cut most of the up front policy aimed at reducing the cause .We are now facing the much higher cost of the results of years in denial because 10% might have to pay more to mitigate their pollution .All parts of society need to wake up ,we cant pave over every inch of ground and not expect to be flooded when it rains .We cant keep pumping sewage ,human or animal ,into rivers and the ocean .We cannot continue to jump in the ar to go to the local shop or have endless over seas holidays burning fosil fuels on the way .
Willis needs to pull her head in and ask for the tax cuts to be returned so she can balance her books .You cant cut your income and continue to spend like a drunken wench in a strip club .
